Brief synopsis of Stargate - BLU-RAY Version

In this visually creative space adventure from the team that would go on to give the world INDEPENDENCE DAY and GODZILLA, a timid, glasses-wearing Egyptologist (Spader) uncovers an ancient portal to another planet and is dispatched there forthwith--along with blundering, clodfooted government troops (led by Russell). The downtrodden populace they encounter, ruled by godlike, androgynous King Ra (Davidson, in his first role after becoming a star in THE CRYING GAME), must be led to literacy and freedom; Ra must be defeated; the intellectual must find his machismo; our boys must return to Earth.

Enough of the cornballing. The film takes an otherwise differing attitude to the Egyptian pyramids and their origin and turns it Sci-Fi. This is the film that kicked off the series Stargate SG-1. The film is based on the book Chariot of the Gods and encorporates an enigmatic security theme to it in the form of the Air Force. The stars James Spader and Kurt Russel play well off each other, which is carried through into the series.

This version though digitally enhanced is essentially the same version that was released on dvd in Region 1 in 2001. Admittedly they could have had more extras on the dvd but that is Sony. This will undoubtedly sell well because it is a collectors item. I have all 4 releases except this one. For a bit of epic escapism for those of you who have not seen it before it is definitely worth a watch. Just don't let the sand get in your eyes.

As the review title says - I have seen this film numerous times and wanted to have a look at it on my HD TV. It does not disappoint - it also helps that the story is very, very good. If you haven't seen this film you are in for a treat!
