Brief synopsis of Sirocco

Bogart produced this action vehicle, in which he stars as Harry Smith, an American gun runner selling weapons to the Arabs in Damascus, circa 1925. As the French and Syrians wage war against each other, Smith is pursued by Feroud (Lee J. Cobb), a French colonel. Smith complicates matters for himself by stealing Feroud's girlfriend (Marta Toren), who has been eager to get away from the commander.

This pretty blatant imitation of Casablanca was made by Humphrey Bogart's own production company, Santana. Set in Syria in the 1920s, this was by his own admission not one of Bogart's best pictures, but it's still a moodily gripping yarn about gunrunners, political commitment and various other intrigues. What it sadly lacks is a decent heroine — Swedish actress Marta Toren is not in the Ingrid Bergman league — though Lee J Cobb is excellent in what might be termed the Claude Rains part.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Tedious romantic drama in the Casablanca vein but with none of the magic.

This is not one of Bogarts better films, but if you like his films then rent it. Its worth a watch.

It is an interesting film to watch although I couldn't really keep my attention to it even second time around For Bogart fans only.

Rated - 2 starsnot the greatest Bogey film

Rather slow moving and infuriatingly so. YES it has the great humprey bogart in it but the plot and Lee J Cobb's stiff acting made it a comedy that I had not anticipated. Worth a look if you want to be ironic
