Brief synopsis of Stargate - Continuum - BLU-RAY Version

Following SG-1 and The Ark of Truth, Stargate: Continuum is the latest chapter in this incredible series. The venerable Richard Dean Anderson returns to the fold, whilst the late Don S. Davis makes his final appearance as General George Hammond.

While SG-1 attends the execution of Ba'al, the last of the Goa'uld System Lords, Teal'c and Vala inexplicably disappear into thin air. Carter, Daniel and Mitchell race back to a world where history has been changed: the Stargate program has been erased from the timeline. As they try to convince the authorities what's happened, hundreds of Goa'uld motherships arrive in orbit, led by Ba'al, his queen Qetesh (Vala), and his first prime, Teal'c. The remaining SG-1 members must find the Stargate and set things right before the world is enslaved by the Goa'uld.

This new film is far better than the last, and the quality on bluray is excellent (no letterbox) a great conclusion to the Baal story arc.

I have watched the series since it began and seen earth destroyed neumerous times and Daniel die at least twice. Once from radiation poisoning to being stabbed through the heart by Amanda Tapping as a Replicator. In this movie we have have our first cumulative effect. To kick off a series of films which have come from a franchise you have to bring forward all those enemies past and present that they have defeated and faced down. The story was well chosen and the year aptly picked out. Some of you in the series may have picked out the similarity between the episode 1969 and this film. except SG-1 return through the Gate at the beginning of the movie to a different reality. The continuity is excellent and if you are a true SG-1 fan you will note that all the baddies are there. If you look at this movie as a beginning rather than a finally then you will be introduced to the team once again and its driving force Amanda Tapping. I found that this movie has been released at just the right time to take advantage of the Hi-Def society we live in today. Remember this is the only sci-fi series in the US to have backing of the education system, Military and NASA. The film is entertaining and mind provoking.

The CG is better than ever and even though the series has been filmed in Hi-Def since 1998 it has only been released on dvd in standard viewing format. Not that the actors knew much about it but the directors and creators were even thinking forward then.

There are a few extras on the DVD that are well worth a look at and remember that the film is especially made for those new to the SG-1 experience. I have a friend who couldn't be bothered with the series but enjoyed the movie. This is what this film is mainly aimed at. By inviting a new audience to the experience of 'a different universe every week' brings a whole new audience with it and if the production is well taken care of, there should be no problems with future funding for future projects, or even a movie surpassing this one.

Verdict: Not perfect but it is a great introduction to SG-1 and the ethic. And possibly a better future to the Stargate franchise.

Excellent! Really enjoyed this! good to see Anderson again! even if it was briefly. Blu-ray was good in parts, but not 100% hi def a little grainy in areas. Storyline was way better than the last film! A great end to an Era!

Rated - 2 starsA disappointment.

Okay the great news is that this is the first Stargate SG1 I have seen on bluray and it does indeed look fantastic! But we are not rating the quality of the picture here. Its all down to the actual story. I am a huge SG1 fan following it right the way through its 10 season history. I really had thought this would be a feature length version of an alternative to the Ori. Where the Goa'uld dominate. Well it was a disappointment indeed, lacking the excitement of past end of season episodes, the mystery of Ancients, and the power of the Ori. This movie is more like a double episode you find in the middle of seasons as oppose to something you find at the end... If you are a SG1 fan I do recommend this, however don't expect a fantastic story line... Perhaps they had squeezed as much out of the SG1 franshise as they could and now all your left with is this...
