If it would have been possible for a movie to make someone bleed from the ears I would have bleed to death. It has not been since the movie 'Swing Kids' that I have struggled to sit through something this bad. I don't know who is behind it nor for what reason it was made, but run away as fast as you can.

Rated - 4 starswhy all the negativity? its original

weaks from London , 08/07/2008

I was feeling very negative about this film as I ordered it before I read the reviews & theyre mostly negative, I don't understand why as I really liked it. It's shot using a home camera, it seems to be pretty improvised so all the humour's really natural & subtle, something I really appreciate even though I'm not a fan of laddish behaviour (present throughout). But I think that's the point - they're all getting tired of it but are not sure where to go with themselves - this film isn't simply a shallow catalogue of childish behaviour. It's about one bloke getting married, them all getting older & the guy with the camera is the only one sorta staying puerile. It could be a little slow OCCASIONALLY but this only made it more realistic & therefore the touching/funny moments more touching and funny, and it makes some valid points about the nature of relationships. I was pleasantly surprised and would quite happily recommend this film, esp if you're a lad under 40 (this is who this film's directed at) - but I am a girl of 23 who hates all that laddish behaviour and I still found this film fairly poignant. And funny when it was supposed to be.

Rated - 2 starsGollum can do better....

Wendy33 from Manchester , 22/02/2006

This film has obviously been released on DVD due to Andy Serkis' success as 'Gollum' in LOTR. I wish they hadn't bothered... As much as I like Andy Serkis, Milo Twomey and Jo Martin as actors this film stinks of being made on the cheap.

It feels as if a group of actor friends have got together and done some improvisation. One has then come up with the idea of filming it.All very self indulgent!

The plot centres around 'Spider' played by Andy Serkis who is the leader of a group of supposed men in their 20's. They are having their last few flings of stupidity before 'Spider' marries and tries to socially better himself.

No particular plot, just supposedly funny incidents filmed on videocam. Most of the guys realistically are nearing 40 so it's quite hard to believe that they would have nothing better to do with themselves.

Overall I was glad it was the Jolly Boys Last Stand as I wouldn't care for a reprise.

Rated - 3 starsSome good bits

A customer from Chislehurst, Kent , 10/06/2007

This film is one of the 'before they were [really] famous' genre - Andy Serkis (Gollum, King Kong) takes the lead and Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali G, Borat) has a minor part. So you're curious to know how they performed in a low-budget drama, a bit like watching Catherine Zeta-Jones in The Darling Buds of May.

The plot? As it happens it's very close to Tim Lott's novel 'White City Blue' - group of 'mates' from school are still up to laddish hi-jinx but getting on a bit and one of them wants to settle down and get married to A Nice Girl. Or maybe he doesn't. And the others won't let him. Or maybe they will. You get the idea.

The style is faux-home video and much of the material appears to be improvised. I got the impression that the actors were a bit posher and older than the characters they were portraying. Some very funny moments such as the football match, stag do and fish scene. But overall not a completely satisfying film.
