Brief synopsis of Cousins

When a pair of cousins-by-marriage (Ted Danson and Isabella Rossellini) meet at a family wedding and discover that their own spouses (William Petersen and Sean Young) are carrying on with each other, they decide to pretend to have an affair to get back at them. Their good-natured plan takes on unexpected gravity when they realize they're falling in love with one another. A splendid reworking of the 1975 French comedy COUSIN COUSINE.

Rating of 3 stars out of 5 Radio Times

A remake of the French film Cousin, Cousine, this is a glossy romance featuring Isabella Rossellini and Ted Danson as relatives-by-marriage who find themselves falling in love during a succession of family gatherings. He's married to ice-cold Sean Young, who in turn is having an affair with Rossellini's hubby, William Petersen. Danson, trying to break away from his role as Sam in Cheers, gives one of his most likeable movie performances, while Young manages to steal the show by playing the role of bitchy cheating wife to the max. Intermittently funny, but still a slight disappointment from director Joel Schumacher.

Los Angeles Times

"...COUSINS has a palpable glow when Rossellini is on the screen, radiating a charm and a pure inviolable honesty that will make you think of only one other actress: her mother, Ingrid Bergman..."

It just didn't get going, the characters weren't introduced very well and Ted is a lame actor. The wife stuck with it a little longer but gave up.

The teens watched this and voted it only 'OK', and 'cheesie'. SO I guess that's not too impressive.

One of those few 80's movies that bridge the time gulf ( apart from the clothes/hairstyles) Danson and Rossellini are a brilliant combination, feel the sparks. Its an old fashioned good feeling movie, that is about real people and their pain/pleasure Has its funny moments - just as well, but you leave with a feeling that the main characters were real humasns with real feelings. More please
