Brief synopsis of Star Wars - The Clone Wars

Like the 2003 animated short films of the same name, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS reveals what happened during the conflicts of the title, which are set between EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES and EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. Unlike the former series, this CLONE WARS feature film uses computer animation--rather than more traditional 2-D animation--to tell its tales. The action centres on Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiced by James Arnold Taylor), Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), and precocious new Jedi recruit Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), as they face off against the sinister Separatist forces led by Count Dooku (the legendary Christopher Lee, who reprises his role from the live-action movies). The film also features appearances by such beloved characters as Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson, also of EPISODES II and III), C3PO (Anthony Daniels), and Yoda (Tom Kane).
Directed by Dave Filoni (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER), THE CLONE WARS shares the same era and characters as the 2003 series, but is stylistically quite different, with a blocky look influenced in part by the marionettes of the 1960s U.K. show THUNDERBIRDS. While the voices of actors such as Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christiansen, and Frank Oz are missed, their successors handle their mantles well, confidently leading the heroes in fierce battles and tense chases. Though diehards of the original STAR WARS trilogy may shrug their shoulders at the CGI wizardry, young fans will find much to enjoy in this action-packed movie, which promises to be continued in a regular Cartoon Network TV series.

An enjoyable escapade and a great introduction to the forthcoming series... dares to try something genuinely fresh and inventive

Variety

Visually, the series... [takes] full advantage of impressively rich animation to mount big, splendidly realized battle sequences

Rated - 2 starsIt's just like another film for kids from cartoon network

Picktokyo Picktokyo from London, England [Highly rated reviewer] , 21/08/2008

I'm a hard core starwars fans. I think, this movie is ok IF it just a home video movie or as a promo release. But as a movie this is a disappointment. It can't be compared to any of the starwars movie before. This movie is just for kids, the dialogs also immature. Its just not right.

Rated - 1 starsA missed opportunity! One for the kids, not die hard Star Wars fans

Jonathan Pounder from Hartlepool , 14/08/2008

To sum it up in one sentence - this film has the love child of Jabba the Hutt and South Parks' Cartman.

No opening Star Wars title, no Star Wars music, Christopher Lee not sounding like Christopher Lee, the Jedi wanting a truce with Jabba the Hutt, Anakin with a Padawan; a baby Jabba the Hutt.

The film sits between episodes 2 and 3 but there is very little interlinking them, this film is more targetted at children and the upcoming cartoon series.

Die hard Star Wars fans actually left the cinema in disgust during the film - thats how bad it gets!

If you are a fan and want to watch this film, dont expect to much. This film had huge potential, sadly it fell well sort of the mark.

If you are a young person then you will love it!

Rated - 3 starsBetter than TPM!!

Ping from Abergavenny , 16/08/2008

I'm 32 & I enjoyed this film. Have beena fan of the original trilogy all my life, and like a lot of people I was very dissapointed with the Phantom Menace. The following 2 films got better as they went along, but I found that if you lowed your expectaions then you enjoyed the films more.

After listening to a interview with Mr Lucas I understood that this film was gonna be targeted at a younger age group. As the man said that the fans have grown up, but the target audience is still the 8-14yr age group. With this in made we went to the cinema expecting a kiddies film with some butt puckering dire-logue,,,,and thats what we got!

I thought the animation style was brave and the battle scenes awesome. Also liked the fact that the Clones were given character too.

Rated - 3 starsLess embarassing than the prequels

TheFlaneur from London [Highly rated reviewer] , 16/10/2008

Ok. Most of you reading this are going to be adults. You're also going to think that this film is a pile of poo. I went to see this film expecting to be buttock clenchingly embarassed and guess what? I wasn't. Firstly you must lower your expectations young Padawan You are never going to get that original feeling of awe back which you had when you were a young Star Wars fan.

Yes it is a kids film and lets face it, Star Wars films are always kid's film. The greatest pleasure I get from Star Wars now is watching it with my kids and seeing the wonder in their faces I had when I saw the first film in 1977(thats 1st not 4th). As for the adult star wars fans, get over it and go and watch some Godard or Fellini if this is too kiddy for you.

The story may be a bit dodgy but, at least Lucas has allowed other peoples creative influence on this film. The prequels suffered because there was too much Lucas in them and really they became pastiche of the first three originals.

This on the other hand is at least trying to do something different. The animation is great and I feel that the prequels should have been made as animation like this, as those films really are very cartoon in style. Strangely Anakin is no less wooden in cartoon format than the real actor who plays him. It is gret to see a little bit of banter and humour in Clone Wars. I think the prequels also suffered by being too po-faced.

Overall a pleasant surprise
