Brief synopsis of Legendary

Legendary tells the story of Charles Deckard, an art thief who is duped into stealing Pandora's Box. When he inadvertently opens it, he releases hordes of beasts thought to be fictional - such as werewolves and gryphons - into an unprepared modern world. A full scale war between man and myth begins, and it is quickly complicated by the actions of powerful secret societies. As the person responsible for releasing this terror, Deckard's unwittingly becomes the only person capable of containing it once more and saving civilization from being destroyed by the terrifying creatures.

Legendary has all the pieces it needs to stand out among the crowd of PS3 FPS games, but they just don't click. The fantascal enemies are really different to what gamers are used to, werewolves, firedrakes, griffens and golems all feature- aswell as the more typical mercenaries- but theres just something missing. The creatures are well designed but lack that wow factor; they jsut dont feel too threatening; And you should feel threatened pretty easily - the weapons are totally underpowered. Pistols, SMGs and Assault rifles all feel pitifully damp. Theres no oomph or feeling of power, and as a result the most satisfying weapon to use is the Fireaxe. The gameplay is reminiscent of older FPS games (PS2 Generation), its very linear. Theres alot of obstacles which, no matter how hard you try, just can't be passed- and I'm not talking craters or bridges here, I mean 12 inch high tables or mounds of rubble totally befuddle the character. The graphics are right around average o be honest, nothing too bad.

Overall there was alot more that could've been done with this game, but the aforementioned problems stop it from being great. Still worth a rent!

Werewolves are cool right? Griffons are totally cool. And Lava monsters that throw fireballs at you are mega-cool. So this game really ought to be able to grab your attention, and really make it fun just to be in this world of monsters. But it doesn't.

firstly, the time it takes to install is pretty shocking - I miss the good old days when during install you got to see the backstory of the game, or at least some pretty graphics. Nowadays we get 10 minutes of a progress bar creeping its way across screen. Thats not progress.

Very little effort seems to have been made of the Main Menu interface, and it feels more like an early PS2 game than a PS3 game. And when you get into the actual game itself, there's even more disapointment - maybe we've been spoiled with beautiful graphics from games like Madden 09, Soul Caliber 4, GT5:Prologue - but i just don't think the look of this game is up to standard. it is easily the least visually impressive game i've played on PS3. And I was so looking forward to a photorealistic recreation of a werewolf taking a shorgun blast to the head. Shame.

The Gameplay itself is very linear, and the inability to navigate minor obstacles, coupled with having to stand and wait at times for the game to remove the obstacle in your path - it simply isn't of the standard I expect to see in games today.

If it had come out 5 years ago on the PS2, legendary would have become another nice addition to my game collection. in 2008, when competing against prettier, more engaging games? Legendary simply isn't up to scratch.

Apart f having few nice tricks (the golem, the tentacles in water...), the game itself is pretty boring and repetitive :( I wouldn't give this game even 2 starts, but as I mentioned before, there were two nice things in this game:

1) the level with Golem - very cool.

2) Echidna's tentacles shooting out of water every now and then, trying to grab you ;) - very cool.

Sadly, that's not enough to make a good game.
