Brief synopsis of Fracture

Amidst a backdrop of worldwide ecological and seismological chaos in the mid-2100s, the United States has been split in two by the "Great Flood." As a result of the polar ice cap melting, the Mississippi River has destroyed the central portion of the United States, causing an ill-equipped Federal Government to fail and literally cut the country in half. These two halves are left to fend for themselves in the aftermath.

The East, now known as the Atlantic Alliance, symbolic of their union with Europe, puts its faith in surviving this new world in cybernetics, an established yet evolving technology now more than 150 years old. On the other side of the flooded continent, the Western states, now called the Republic of Pacifica and having allied with Asia, resort to solving their problems at the genetic level, effectively restructuring the DNA of its inhabitants - a method the Atlantic Alliance finds morally reprehensible.

I'd been looking forward to this game for a long time and it really does not disappoint. First off the graphics are great, the story line is good and the weapons are awesome. What really sets this game apart are some of the advances in the in game physics and how you're able to interact with your environment. As well as your really cool selection of weapons and grenades you also have the ability to INSTANTLY raise or lower terrain to varying heights. Use this to your advantage. Instantly create a trough under your enemies and shoot them from above. Raise it from beneath and squish them against ceilings. There are so many ways to use the terrain deformation ability to your advantage. It's a fast paced game that requires good tactics as well as plenty of hardcore shooting and explosions. I'd recommend it to all. Only thing wrong was that it ended too soon!

Unimaginative, generic shooting with an awkwardly implemented and stupid gimmick- Do you ever feel the need to raise a stupid, crappily rendered mound of earth to create cover in COD, Brothers in Arms, Gears of War or Resistance? No, no you don't. This is a seriously weak gimmick to base an entire game around, and the weapons aren't really exciting either. It's predictable, bland, cheaply difficult (I.e the game doesnt get harder, you just lose health quicker in the higher difficulties) and short.

It's worth a rent if you've ran out of alternatives, love love sci-fi shooters, are easily amused or are a masochist. If you aren't any of the above, give it a miss.
