Brief synopsis of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

PES 2009 is the latest installment of the award-winning Pro Evolution Soccer Series, which is known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism. For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing. The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts. Similarly, all-new options allow users to tailor the game to their own tastes, while new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements will further the realism of the new game.

I have been playing pro evo games ever since ISS2 on ps1, they have quite simply always been better to play than the fully licensed, but ultimately dross that has been virtually every fifa game since the 97 or 99 edition (i forget which one).

This version definately fixes the flaws that so dramatically let down pes 2008 so it now plays as well as it has ever done and there are a couple off nice touches like weather having more of an effect on the movementy of the ball, the inclusion of the 'become a legend' mode (which lets face it is a carbon copy of 'Be a Pro' from fifa) and some licensed champions league stuff (which is very welcome).

As a pes man then, it kind of pains me to say that.... I think fifa09 is actually the better game this year. unfortunately despite a few tweaks, pes has not really improved this year, whereas the fifa game has come on in leaps and bounds.

konami have issued basically what PES should have been like last year and whilst this is still a great footy simulation, i was expecting more really. the core gameplay remains totally unchanged, as does master league, and you'll still have to scower the internet for a dodgy download if you want any of the english teams to have thier proper names and kits.

Basically for me, and in a surprising turn of events, fifa now plays a more realistic game of footy and pes now feels like the more arcadey pick up and play game. in my opinion, fifa is also far superior online, boasting 10 v 10 maches which for some reason pes can't yet manage. i know this won't matter to most pes fans who will still go out and buy this over fifa or to many fifa fans who will still buy fifa over pro evo. i suppose that they are indeed both as good as each other in slightly different ways this year.

Which ever one you go for (i went for fifa this year, but i may change my mind later as i can't see myself playing it forever, due to no team development), i'm sure you'll have a damn good time.

I am a PES Man myself, but when this game came out I had just bought my PS3 so I decided to get FIFA 09 as well. I have hardly touched FIFA 09 due to the smooth gameplay of PES2009.

I do however have a huge complaint about PES 2009. Like most of you, when I have no friends at my house I play online. I have a fairly good connection but the online version of this game is ridiculous. You will tackle a player and be running up the pitch, when all of a sudden the other player has put the ball in the back of the net. It's like you're playing in a completely different game. Also everybody chooses Barcelona and I'm sick to death of playing against them. They are simply too good, especially Messi who can walk through 11 players and walk the ball into the back of the net with consumate ease.

Playing this game online has lead me to break 2 controllers, a remote control and the fan next to my bed, through sheer frustration. The online really is ridiculous so if you plan to play football against people from all over the globe, I suggest FIFA! (Can't believe I said that.)

However, the new game mode, Become A Legend, is amazing! Everybody seems to say it is just a take off of Fifa's Be A Pro game. So What??? It is much better. You are a single player and you control only his movements in matches. So you make runs off the ball and try to play your team mates in for a perfectly worked goal. Or smash it in the top corner yourself and try to get Man of the Match. You create your player, get signed up by a club (from 1 of 4 leagues including France, Spain, Italy, and England), play every game in the season (League, Cup, European Cup, Championship Cup, International Cup, European Cup) and during the transfer period you have the option to choose a club who has made an offer for you. Your skills improve over the seasons, and you actually have the opportunity to play up to 20 seasons til you're an old man. Try to get picked for your international team! It really does give you the chance to live out your dream of being a professional footballer.

The only small complaint I would make about this mode is the times when your player doesn't get a touch on the ball for a full half. But this is rare.

If anybody has played Fifa and Pro evo in the Legend mode you will know what I am talking about. I would give Fifa's version 1/10 and Pro Evo's version 10/10! Seriously!

The only other difference this game has from last year is the Champions League mode which is pretty self explanitory, oh and the game play is a bit smoother (NOT ONLINE!)

Definately rent this game and become a Legend of the football world!

Rated - 5 starsFar & away the best football sim

A customer from Bristol , 03/01/2009

The best football game by far but it has to be played HD to get the full benefit. The play is intricate and realistic there is a realness to the tackiing and dribbling that you don't get with FIFA, the way the ball breaks from a 50/50 tackle is incredibly realistic and there aren't as many 'set piece' goals as the FIFA & the free kicks and corners have improved from the last edition. But what I like most is you just can't shoot or hoof it away from defence.

The only downside is the multiplayer option is limited to exhibition games again (same as 08 but unlike 07?). Don't these games people know how many people have a few mates round after the pub for a mini league or a world cup.
