Brief synopsis of Alone in the Dark: Inferno

Central Park is hiding a secret. Built as a safe haven not only for the people of New York, but for something else entirely. The vast parkland has been protected by generations of guardians while the most expensive city in the world reached skyward on its fringes. Now the truth can no longer be contained, and paranormal investigator Edward Carnby finds himself inexplicably cast into the eye of the storm as over the course of one apocalyptic night he must uncover the earth-shattering secret behind Central Park. New York will never be the same again.

Inspired by the gripping style of contemporary TV dramas, the game delivers a new degree of narrative intensity, presented as a complete season format of episodes each containing action, twists and cliff-hangers. Bursting with innovative technology, including unprecedented environmental interaction, revolutionary physics, advanced artificial intelligence, stunning visuals, and a uniquely immersive user interface.

everything about AITD is superbly executed.... the episodic levels are reminiscent of a series of Buffy/angel or heroes...

At the end of each 'episode' you are faced with a cliffhanger and when returning to the game from a save you are greted to 'previously on Alone in the Dark' adding to the unique atmosphere. gameplay mechanics are simple enough to use and it all has that one more go factor.

Rated - 2 starsStill not fixed

DA200 from Cambs [Highly rated reviewer] , 15/02/2009

When the game arrived on the 360 and PC the game got slated for being broken. The ps3 game was delayed, with promises of it being fixed. They managed to fix some of the problems but the game is still broken which effects the game. The gun and melee combat is still rubbish (the melee combat is improved from the 360 game but its still rubbish when fighting the 'humanz' The best weapon is still the lighter and aerosol.

One of the main problems is controls of Edward (they have also been improved) but he still handles badly and you still have to switch from 1st person to 3rd person for certain things. Another problem is the endings are still crap, you spend all the time to get to the end and they are so poor. Also even with the PSN update, the game locks up, 3 times in about 2 days when other better games never crash. Another is some of the effects (mostly explosions) never appear on screen.

The game could of been great but poor programming and clueless developers have killed the AitD series. Also its not really Alone in the dark as you are not alone and its not dark as everything is on fire ;)

Rated - 1 starSo much potential...

I have been a fan of the Alone In The Dark series and this game looked promising.

The premise is great, the story is cool, the ideas for gameplay are awesome!

But when you sit down and play it...

...well, lets just say I could not be bothered to complete it.

This game could have been great if done right.
