Brief synopsis of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is an action-RPG that combines compelling story and free-roaming gameplay in a huge, seamless gameworld.

Poised on the brink of destruction and threatened by over whelming chaos, a mysterious energy source is spreading across the world of Ancaria. Leaving mutation and terror in its wake, this living energy has become the razors edge on which all else is balanced. The powers of Light and Shadow are destined to collide in an ill fated battle that could tear apart the fabric of life itself.

Featuring six diverse characters, extensive skill progression, a range of gameplay styles, and parallel campaigns of heroic duality in both single and multiplayer modes, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel brings the fantasy world to life. Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is a living, breathing fantasy world and is the perfect setting for action-RPG heroes to carve their own legends.

I wasn't sure quite what to make of this when i first fired up the disc, i don't even know what drew me to it in the first place. i wasn't that impressed straight away , the controls were easy enough to pick up but it didn't look amazing at first. the game did grow on me bit by bit and whilst i'm sure many will dislike the story and camera ( which can feel a little drowning at times) i found a game that could have been more but still managed to enjoy and i'm still going by the way and i have a very short attention span.

Seemed like it would be enjoyable but it really wasn't. It may of been lack of friends to play it with (only one other friend owns this and he was in Germany when I received it), but over all I found it lacking in many areas.

Player characters are uninteresting and spit out incessantly poor one liners 'Need. to. get. better. protection. against. physical. attacks.' is one blinder, which in my few hours of playing I heard no small amount of times even though I kept pretty much on the cutting edge of the armour I was allowed. It seems unashamedly retro is some regards, and that really isn't a good thing for this genre, as it needs to be kept fresh if it is to survive, something I expect Dragon Age by Bioware to achieve in a few months.

The tone is also slightly irreverent; something that merely baffled me, but i could imagine the purists to the genre getting worked up into all sorts of rages about it. Don't get me wrong, of course humour has a place in video games, but you have to consider the tone. You can't produce a dour faced fantasy game that seems all very serious just to throw in comedy grave stones and cameo's from a metal band. It doesn't work and is fairly insulting to boot.

Couple this with a slightly baffling control system and no real explaination of what's going on or decent tutuorial, this is one best left well alone. I used to like these games a lot, but if this is anything to go by, then maybe they've had their day.

I think in all fairness I should point out that this game seemed a hell of a lot worse as I had got fable 2 at the same time. By comparison this game is a complete disaster.

Graphically it's really basic, putting me in mind of an old ps1 style. Plot wise it's boring and unimaginative, largely making the game feel like a chore to play. On the upside it's huge and has many different weapons and armour to collect. Unfortunately because of the sheer poor standard that resides throughout the rest of this game that large size does nothing but make the game more annoying. Also the gameplay is dull and repetitive, go here kill this, take that there all the while just slash, slash, magic, rinse and repeat. I had this for about two weeks on rental and can honestly say I picked it up twice, maybe three times. In fact the last time I went to play it before sending it back I only managed to get to the title screen before deciding I just couldn't do it and turned it off. I'm aware that there's some people out there who like this style of RPG (has been compared to diablo) and that I can understand. However if you prefer your more recent RPG's, like fable or oblivion, I'd probably give this a miss. Achievements on this one are a real nightmare having to play through the whole storyline multiple times with various characters.
