Brief synopsis of Fuel

From the publishers of Colin McRae: DiRT and Race Driver: Grid comes a revolution in multi-terrain racing and featuring the biggest racing environment ever created. Born of Asobo Studios' cutting-edge proprietary engine that has benefited from over four years of development, Fuel will present players with an astonishing no-boundaries playfield that's over 5,000 square miles (14,000+ kmē) in size. With environmental detail inspired by America's most incredible landscapes, Fuel will be the ultimate competitive go-anywhere racing experience. Fuel will have players competing across wildly different terrain from deep snow to open wilderness and arid river-beds, and executing spectacular death-defying stunts as they race and explore this epic world on an unprecedented scale.

Been looking forward to this for ages but it's poop.

They said - 'Fuel will present players with an astonishing no-boundaries playfield that's over 5,000 square miles (14,000+ km²) in size.'

I say - yep. no boundaries but the races are on tight courses with multiple checkpoints and obstructions giving little room to deviate.

They said - 'Fuel will be the ultimate competitive go-anywhere racing experience.'

I say - Have you seen Burnout Paradise?

They said - 'cutting-edge proprietary engine that has benefited from over four years of development'

I say - was it one guy who only works tuesday and thursday mornings?

I thought this game would be like a more open and explorable Burnout Paradise. How wrong was i?

To allow you to try and grasp how bad this game is i'll compare it to Burnout Paradise.

Fuel has 5000 square miles of area to explore. I'm not sure on Burnout, but it's safe to say it's a lot less.

In Burnout 99% of the map is available for driving in, every millimetre of the mapo is tailored to enhance the experience.

In Fuel 99% of the map is NOT available for driving on. What was going through their minds? Let's make a huge map, boast about it a lot, but then fill it with tree's and unscalable mountains. WHY!?!? In races unless you're on a bike it's absolutely useless trying to drive through the tree's and not to mention the ridiculous things thatd you can crash into. I was in a MONSTER TRUCK and got wiped out by a little bush. There's hundreds of little rocks sticking out the ground too, making all offroad races an absoloute pain in the backside.

Almost the entire map has clearly been generated by an engine and that's why it's so vehicle unfriendly, whereas with Burnout they have clearly made up the entire map themselves and not had some game engine do it all for them.

In a word - Pitiful

I was expecting something fresh from this, but as the other reviews show, I was disappointed. Controls were ok, but the vehicles felt far too light and sadly, restarting a race also meant re-loading the track.

I wouldn't recommend it.
