Brief synopsis of Passenger 57

A crackerjack airplane security agent just happens to be sharing a plane ride with a captured airline terrorist. When the terrorist escapes and attempts a mid-flight takeover only John Cutter can stop him. Cutter finds more ways to hide and attack on the airliner than the terrorist or his band of henchmen ever imagined.

Die Hard provided such a perfectly structured action-movie template that Hollywood has been reluctant to leave the idea alone; cue this silly but hugely enjoyable airborne thriller. Wesley Snipes plays the security expert who finds himself on the same aeroplane as obligatory British master criminal Bruce Payne, temporarily in police custody. Of course, Payne's henchmen have hitched a lift as well and when they duly free him, it's up to Snipes to save the day. Despite the hand-me-down plot and dialogue, director Kevin Hooks manages to wring the requisite suspense out of some expertly staged action set pieces. He is helped enormously by charismatic turns from Snipes and Payne, and a solid supporting cast that includes Tom Sizemore, Bruce Greenwood and a then little-known Elizabeth Hurley.

"...Like taking a ride on a sleekly designed roller coaster....[Snipes] strolls through the role with a glint in his eye..."

John Cutter (Snipe at his best) is a security expert, He is on a fight going for a meeting when on the same plane is Charles Rane (Bruce Payne) , a disturbed terrorist, who was caught by the FBI . The plane is taken over by Rane’s people however Cutter puts “a spanner in the works”. Fantastic Action, Thriller with lots of violence. Elizabeth Hurley isn’t a bad actress either. Well worth watching, I watched it lots of times.

This film acts as one of the last great action films of the 80s and early 90s where men could shoot one another and have little reason to do so.

This film does not stand out particulary, being a generic action film, but it does contain one of my all time favorite movie lines :

Wesley Snipes to the bad guy :

'When playing Roulette. Always bet black!'

If you like that kind of cheese you will like this.

100% action all the way. That is all you can say about this hidden little gem. Freneticly paced right from the start, it never lets up.

Wesley Snipes can bust a move with the best of them, and Bruce Payne 'hams it up' to the max. Good production values, geat action set pieces and some good performers, make this a must for die hard action fans.

On the down side it has a short running time and the plot does not exceed past standard.

This is ok. I mean, typical movie with a typical happy ending. It's not bad, but it's not wonderful. If it was on Sky Movies, it would start at 3pm

Rated - 3 starsWatchable, but recommend Air Force One instead

Joe121 from NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE , 02/05/2008

Simple, linear terrorist plane-hijack film... a format that has been done by Air Force One to a much better standard, however, this film is still watchable and makes easy-watching for any Action film fans out there. All in all, not a bad performance by the cast, if not sometimes a little cheesy - but nothing to rant and rave about!
