Rated - 5 starsMI5 - not 9 to 5

If you have not seen this top class British production yet, put it on your list now. While it doen't have the gloss of a US show such as 24, it more than makes up for it with strong topical storylines and gutsy script. Measured perfomances ensure that the show stays believable.

It takes guts for a show with so many good performers to kill one of its star names off mid series, but Spooks does this and justifies every second.

There is not a week episode of this show, and you will be gripped by the final images ensuring that you place and advance order for the second series.

What a shame. I love spooks and these episodes are very good as always. The downside is whoever chose to produce this dvd felt that minimalism was the way to go regarding the number of episodes on the disc. What you do get to see is enjoyable - there just isn't enough of it resulting in a slight feeling of being ripped off!

Rated - 5 starsOne of the greater spy shows

A thoroughly entertaining, all substance show, dont expect the glamour of 24, as this has been forfeited in place of a very solid script, topical storylines and excellent acting all around. (Not that 24 was any less, I loved it, its jsut a different style). I have watched every episode apart from the one I missed - the infamous deep fryer scene, which I am renting the DVD to see specifically. I am very impressed. The story, equipment and characters and locations are so real, it is very rare a series of this calibre comes out, an unexpected gem, especially from the BBC!

I loved this programme and was so happy to watch the ones I had already seen and be surprised by the ones I hadn't yet seen. Production was top-notch and much better than anything in a long while. Deserves Baftas quick!

Rated - 4 starsExcellent programme - shame about the DVD menu

A customer from West Midlands , 07/08/2008

I loved Spooks when I first got into it in a later series but have never seen the first series. Now I know what all the fuss was about - the plots are great and its really topical. Every episode makes you think and question the big issues of today.

However, one gripe - can someone _please_ tell the producers of the DVD that the menu is REALLY ANNOYING - hard to navigate, no instructions and the intro is too long. Please re-release with a decent menu.

As others have said, there should be more episodes on the first disk - we need to get hooked on a new series before you bombard us with other material for real fans. I assume the other 8 episodes from season 1 are on the next two disks so look forward to an improvement.

Rated - 5 starsQuality TV even second time around

This disk has two episodes on it and loads of interesting background stuff too.

The first episode is about pro-life extremists with 20 bombs in their possession. It begins with them blowing up a family planning doctor in her car(for those like me who were not sure if they'd seen this one or not). It ends with a thought provoking insight into Tom's justice.

The second episode is a gripping tale of how a manufactured situation causing the death of illegal immigrants is used as a means to an end. All is very cleverly not as it seems.

For those who have seen Spooks before it's the deep fat fryer one. For those sensitive viewers or those with too good an imagination (you don't really see anything awful) shut your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears for ten minutes when Kevin McNally puts his oven mits on!

For Coronation Street fans Frankie saves the day.
