Before I start my small review, i'd like to note that I am a huge transformers fan. (Original cartoons to 2009 movies/games.

However, after playing 'Transformers: The Game' which I thought was a terrible game. Bad graphics, gameplay was terrible, the features was very limited and was much to easy and definately a 5 year olds kind of game.

I could only hope they would greatly improve the game. I rented Transformers 2 and thought it was a big improvement but still a game which I could only play for an hour. The graphics are improved alot and gameplay is better, storyline is just saving the world (Ofcourse). But you get to choose either the autobots or decepticons.

I would say this game is more meant for the ages of 10-15. But it's worth a play if your a transformers fan, just don't expect it to be amazing and you won't be dissapointed.

Note: I play on a full 40' 1080p HDTV.

The game is far too simple like the first transformers game it lacks moves a simple 1 button to attack and 1 button to shoot from a game that has the potential that this one does is a big let down it looks the part but overall a big let down. The voices weren't the most accurate either which was a bit of a turn off. MUST DO BETTER!

I was a big fan of the first film, less so for the sequel. This game doesn't feature Megan Fox's breasts or the racially-stereotyped Twin Autobots, so it's not quite so directed toward fifteen year old boys (or what Michael Bay thinks fifteen year old boys would like).

No, this game's target audience are those who suffer frequent bouts of short term memory loss. It game feels like a collection of side missions, all based around 'go here, kill this, go there, kill that'. Each one lasts four to ten minutes, and takes place on a small map, meaning you are constantly changing location (although most of the time it's hard to tell) and are given objective after objective. This arena-based gameplay leaves you feeling like you aren't really accomplishing anything. A much better structure would have been to group missions together, with actual checkpoints instead of level breaks.

There are five acts in the game: Shanghai, [USA] East Coast, West Coast, Deep 6 and Cairo. Most of these have three 'story-based' missions, with three optional ones for unlocking concept art and experience grinding. In total, that gives twenty three possible missions. Each one takes only a few minutes, but you will spend a lot of time watching completely irrelevant and contradictory cut-scenes, if you can call four robots huddled around a world map a cutscene. Even so, you can complete these twenty three missions in as little as three hours. The developer saw that this was terrible value, so they artificially lengthened the game by mirroring the 'storyline' to the side of the Decepticons. You still play the same areas, same twenty three missions. The only differences are the robots you play as, and 'protect' missions become 'destroy' missions (which makes them no less tedious).

The robots then. There are five per side, but you are limited in who you can pick in a seemingly random manner. In some cases you can't choose at all, which defeats the purpose of having a roster rather than the game just telling you who to use. It doesn't really matter, as they all have the same basic attacks and a machine gun, with a missile launcher/chargeable laser/grenade launcher as a secondary weapon. One is a helicopter in vehicle form, which would be useful if he wasn't so weak for balance purposes. The two fighter-jets are awkward to use as vehicles, and in robot form are generally the same as the rest. A few of the special moves are vaguely useful, but as you can't use them often the best bet is to use the robot with the most health.

As the robots themselves were (IMO) the best part of the films (how they transformed, the intricacies of their parts etc) it's disappointing that 1) there are no actual cutscenes/film footage showing them off at any point in the game, and 2) that they look fairly bland in a game of which they are the focus. There are five commonly recurring enemy types, and even the 'bosses' (any robot with a name) are dull to fight. I really hated that these boss characters had maybe twenty times more health than regular enemies, something that plagued FPS games back in the 90s.

There is one decent boss fight in the game. It's near the end of the Autobot campaign, and is against a significantly larger enemy. This was the only section that stood out in the six hours that it took me to play both campaigns. And even then, it was a typical 'shoot weak points and run away' boss fight.

Also, at maybe three points in the game does it mirror the events in the film. It wasn't that the developer was given free roam, most of the missions are about picking up the pieces after the events in the film. Making this a bad game very loosely tied to a decent film.

Ok, two positive points about the game. The combat is great for about four levels. And doing a jump from a boosting car, going back into car form and repeating to get around a city block is a lot of fun.

How I got all that from playing a three hour game twice, I don't know. If it matters, I got 505 gamerpoints in that time. There is multiplayer which could be alright, but I don't really want to spend any more time with the game.

If you're a fan of the films... well that might mean you won't hate it.
