This film should carry a message warning you not to look too deeply for rhyme or reason or you'll end up with a nasty headache. Just ignore the holes in the plot and concentrate instead on the rivalry that develops between hitmen Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas, especially when Stallone becomes enamoured of their target, hacker supreme Julianne Moore. Director Richard Donner lets Banderas get away with a lazy performance, but Stallone has rarely been so interesting.

Basically this is about hit man Robert Wrath {Sylvestor Stallone} who decides to retire from being an assassin. however, a mysterious sender has sucked him back into the job for one last time. it all starts at a funeral attack by an evil sniper named Miguel Baigne { Antonio Banderos} who is sent out by his boss to murder a thief called Elektra { Julianne Moore} who has a disc which they desperately need. fantastic scenes. great entertainment. i loved the scenes in Spain!

This was made in 1995 and is not an Oscar winning film, but it is a well made action film which is still enjoyable judged against today's standard. It was written by the Wachowski brothers (Matrix), and Helgelund (Knight's Tale) assisted with the screen play. Richard Donner directed. The plot is well described in the other reviews, but no one mentioned the photography which I thought very good, lots of unusual camera angles but not over done. Nice lighting and colours (although the film starts in black and white - the standard flashback indicator). Good acting from the three main leads, you care about the characters who are, lets face it, all a bit bad as far as the law goes. The diction of Stallone and Banderas was a little difficult in places but the film was easy to follow as it explained important plot points. For example why Banderas left his sniper's nest and went in to the bank was talked through by Stallone before the event when he was imagining how it would all go, this scene also explained why he chose that bank to get his money. There is a very small bit of spanish dialogue which is not subtitled (good in my view). If you really want to know what was said you can find out on the IMDB forum for this film. Good entertainment for a wet Saturday afternoon.

Even after watching First Blood I hated Stallone.

This is not bad however, he does try to make himself understood when he talks.A good entertaining, tense film and to my mind one of his best.

A great film. Sylvestor Stallone shows that he is one of the all time greats by taking on the challenging role of 'Rath' in this film. Antonio Banderes also does a good job, as does the female actress that gets caught up between the two .

The film has pretty much everything; a good plot, action, adventure and considering that it is a few years old it is still makes good viewing.

Without wanting to give away too much of the storyline, the movie is about an assassin (Sylvestor Stallone) who is being undercut by another assassin (Antonio Banderes). Stallone is the more experienced, more professional of the two but Banderes is the more ruthless.

The best part of the film is when Banderas' character is hired to take out Stallone. The interludes of Stallone and his ex Russian partner also highten the plot. One to be watched!

Rated - 3 starsTongue in cheek action thriller, not just for the blokes !

Rival assassins Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas make this an entertaining movie. Personally not a fan of this genre, I really enjoyed this. Banderas was excellent as the psychotic Miguel, the last few scenes see him so manic and nervy he actually makes the viewer feel a little edgy ! Stallone as usual is not great but gives a reasonable performance. Assassins actually has a good (though far-fetched) storyline, unlike some movies of this type.

Ok, here we go with another Stallone action vehicle where he gets to pout a lot, show his flabby muscles and say stupid one-liners, how refreshing. But what I am surprised about is Donner, of Omen, Superman, Lethal Weapon and Goonies fame making such a sloppy turd of a film. Boring and silly, especially Banderas whose accent is so over the top I'm sure he's putting it on, I bet his real names Fred Smith from Stoke-on-Trent.
