This is a story very loosely based on the brilliant Neverending Story about a shapeshifter called Gmork (he doesn't really shift to his supposed wolf side), who works for Xayide, the evil sister of empress Moonchild who is out to destroy Phant?sia and has captured the Luck Dragon. Gmork manifests as Bastian's teacher and stalks him in order to prevent him from reading the Book and Bastian has to overcome rather human obstacles (trouble at school, his lawyer father working for Gmork for a while, etc.)

The plot is introduced within the first few minutes of the movie, at which point I already lost interest because it showed a recap of events only very vaguely resembling the first movie, and then drifting off into complete nonsense. It also seems that the age of electronic gadgets has arrived in Phant?sia, something which I found absolutely out of place but was probably deemed important by the script writers to catch the current generation or something. Appalling to those like myself who loved the original story.

However - if you haven't read the book or seen the first movie and like fantasy-action for kids then you still might find this enjoyable.

These two volumes - 1 & 3 - are abysmal, and not a patch on the original. Don't bother renting any of the series unless you are happy with second rate, rip off pap.

My little girl enjoyed it very much she would not move away from the TV and was getting excited in parts. I think it is a good family film.
