This is the worst of the series so far. Director Joe Chappelle rigidly sticks to the “X number of grisly murders committed by a man in a mask” formula, lamely spicing things up with a supernatural cult element. Trying to give menace by proxy to the laughable awfulness, Chappelle revives Carpenter's original Halloween score as a backdrop. It doesn't work, and neither do the useless revelations intended to explain Michael Myers's years of murder, mystery and mayhem. Donald Pleasence gives his usual reliable performance, but sadly the line of dialogue, “Not dead. Just very much retired”, proved to be his epitaph: the infirm actor died shortly after shooting, and the film is dedicated to his memory.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Tired and, at times, incomprehensible sequel that adds black magic rituals to the familiar mix but without making it any more interesting.

... but not the best in the series either, certainly better than halloween 3. Definately worth seeing if you've seen all the others.

It's a halloween film, you get what you expect!

Rated - 5 starsThe best of the sequels

Joe Webster from Croydon, England , 13/06/2006

This is by far the best Halloween sequel (not counting 2 as this pairs up with the original).

It managed to update the genre without relying on Dawsons Creek type scripting and brought in some of the best themes of the story so far.

The most genius stroke was to involve a creepy neighbour by the name of Tommy Doyle, formerly the young boy Jamie Lee babysat in the original.

Also, this has to be watched if only for the fact it was Donald Pleasance's last outing in the franchise before his death.

Rated - 4 starsNot As Good As It Could Have Been But Not Too Bad Either.

Dave Hall from Bristol, England , 15/09/2004

Okay so there was more blood and a bit more violent killings and action. But there were times when I was lost and felt like this addition to the film series went off the tracks a bit and lost it's way. A didn't hold an awful lot to the original 2 films that were created and the others that followed, this one just didn't quite hold the storyline that well or itself that well.

Rated - 2 starsMassive Let Down

I am/was a massive fan of the Halloween Series. This is the worst of the bunch (with the exception of the latest one, Ressurection) - and was one of the last ones I saw. If I were you I'd stick with Parts 1-5, unless you're dying to see what happened after number five (which I did). It's still pretty bad though.

I was looking forward to watching this but i was disappointed.Quite a bit of blood, but the mystery man in black story what a load of mumbo jumbo.Starts of promising but then goes naft.
