Desert Heat on DVD (1999)
RelatedCritics ReviewsThis violent variation on High Plains Drifter confirmed suspicions of Jean-Claude Van Damme's commercial decline. Clearly, Rocky director John G Avildsen didn't rate this direct-to-video action drama among his finest achievements, as he substituted the pseudonym Danny Mulroon for his own name. His Karate Kid collaborator Pat Morita wasn't afforded similar anonymity, however, and he mugs shamelessly as the eccentric handyman who helps Van Damme's suicidal, motorbiking former hitman rid a desert town of a gang of vicious drug dealers. Laced with native American mysticism and crude comedy, the story follows predictable lines, with gunplay often replacing the usual martial arts thuggery. Halliwell's Film Guide Cheap and not very cheerful variation on Yojimbo. Amid the dozen or so killings, there's a dash of Native American mysticism and comedy relief from a bunch of eccentric old men. Members ReviewsReviews Voted Most HelpfulMost Recent Reviews |
