Brief synopsis of Cruel Intentions 3

This is the second sequel to the 1999 hit which transferred the sexual manipulation and double-crossing of DANGEROUS LIAISONS to an exclusive prep school on Manhattan's Upper West Side. This time Jason (Nathan Wetherington) and Patrick (Kerr Smith) lay bets on who can bed which girl but come unstuck when they meet their match in Cassie (CURSED's Kristina Apanau) an equally calculating bitch, who really gives our two mere boys a manipulative run for their money.

Rated - 3 starsSurprising........

in this film, Cassidy Merteuil, who is the distant cousin of Kathryn Merteuil, arrives in Santa Barbara, California to attend college.

There she meets Jason Argyle, a former friend from her high school, also attending the school.

Jason gets a roommate, called Patrick Bales.

Jason and Patrick form a mean-spirited partnership, of seducing and dumping various young women on campus.

When both of their latest conquests bore them, Jason places a bet with Patrick, to see if they can seduce a particular newcomer, who is under the wing of Cassidy.

But nothing is what it seems, as a triangle of Cassidy, Jason, and Patrick forms, with each one scheming to outwit the other.

The first 'Cruel Intentions' was highly underrated. There was a strong chemistry within the cast (obviously since Reese & Ryan married, at the time of this film being made), and the characters weren't one dimensional.

Even evil Kathryn was capable of pain, that Sarah Michelle Gellar managed to convey in brief moments, which was perfect for that character.

But Cassidy for Cruel Intentions 3, falls far short of being three dimensional. She is just cruel for the whole film, and showed no weaknesses at all. Everyone has some kind of a weakness.

However, I will say that the character Patrick, somewhat intrigued me. He went beyond the game of cruelty..... I will not give away what happens, but it is somewhat disturbing.

Jason's character played by Kerr Smith, I thought was rather dull.

Would I recommend renting out this film? Only if you are a fan of the cruel intentions series.

Rated - 1 starsThe world's second worst movie

warrjan from London , 01/08/2004

I wondered if this movie could actually be worse than Cruel Intentions 2 (the worst movie ever EVER made). Well, it comes close, but CI2 is still worse.

This time it's new characters. The plot is all over the place, the acting is embarassingly bad and it just seems more like soft-core porn in some places than an actual movie.

Cruel Intentions (the original) is a fantastic movie, but just remember that there is always a reason for it when the original actors don't come back in the sequels!

Rated - 1 starsNot worthy of Cruel Intentions title

This is a bad film in every way. Ok, that's out the way, I can tell you why. The acting for the most part was pretty bad and the story is completely pointless making the every-5-minutes plot twists prompt you to think 'so what?' I never expect much of sequels, but I was pleasantly surprised by the 2nd film which didn't quite match up to the 1st but it was at least funny and enjoyable to watch. This one has nothing to do with the first 2 except a minor reference to a couple of names. So with bad acting, bad plot, lack of humour and not even ties to the original to make hardcore fans want to see it, I emphatically do NOT recommend this film.
