RelatedCritics ReviewsSharon Stone's attempt to emulate Gena Rowlands's hard-as-nails moll (who made her money turning tricks with executive gangsters in John Cassavetes's 1980 social thriller) is constantly undercut by veteran Sidney Lumet's lacklustre direction, as this Gloria, together with a small, orphaned Hispanic boy (Jean-Luke Figueroa) and a computer disc of Mafia info, is pursued by the Mob. It's a pity for Stone's sake — she's an enterprising actress who should be admired for taking dramatic chances. Cardboard characters and cut-out situations are all that are left here, without any acknowledgement of Cassavetes's original — which does at least help to leave his memory untarnished.
