Brief synopsis of End Of Days

END OF DAYS is the blood-soaked story of a 20-year-old girl (Robin Tunney) who has nightmares about a mysterious man. Security guard Jericho (Arnold Schwarzenegger) finds himself caught up in the situation when he discovers that Satan (Gabriel Byrne) is roaming the streets of New York City, trying to mate with the girl in the millennium's final hour. If he manages to impregnate her during these 60 minutes, she will give birth to the anti-Christ, who will put an end to the world forever.

Rating of 3 stars out of 5 Radio Times

This millennium's-end action movie is a calculated but fairly enjoyable attempt to give Arnold Schwarzenegger a less indestructible, more human side, and cash in on the revitalised horror genre. While Arnie's amateurish emoting never rings true in the role of a run-down, suicidal, alcoholic ex-cop, the “Devil searching for his bride” story provides some decent popcorn entertainment. Gabriel Byrne, meanwhile, rises above the clumsily structured and wholly derivative script to give an attention-grabbing performance as a very laid-back Prince of Darkness. (The scene in which he seductively bribes Arnold with the chance of a new start is a cracker.) It should have been sharper and scarier, but the final half-hour excitingly delivers the demonic goods.

Halliwell's Film Guide

As pumped-up as its hero, this is a riotous, over-the-top mish-mash of religiosity and shock effects, like The Omen on steroids.

Schwarzenegger looks like yesterday's man in this solemn, silly theological Apocalypse thriller, an overblown rehash of... Read more on www.timeout.com

Rated - 4 starsFantastic film

Firstly, let me assure you this is a great film. Its 4/5 stars, just some minor aspects that puts it just out of my 'Classic' 5 star status - only there's only a handful of films in that list.

Next I'll mention that the leading role (Arnie) was probably not best to play the part. Think Keanu Reeves in 'Devils Advocate'. Think Brad Pitt in 'Seven'. Think Johnny Depp in '9th Gate'. Think Keanu Reeves in the upcoming film 'Constantine'. Can you imagine Arnie playing any of these roles ... NO!

And its a bit strange to see him playing this role. Having said that, he seems to fit the part amazingly well, and in fact its probably his best film(!). Fans of Arnie wanting to see him back in an All-Action Film of course will be disappointed cos its not what the film is about. This reason is probably why most people either a) avoid the film, or b) rent the film.

The plot is about the End of Days thingy in the bible - and almost parallels to the upcoming film The Da Vinci Code in some ways. There's bits of action type sequences with Arnie (tame by his standards) which are fine and not too overpowering for the films liking. Lots of mystery and intrigue, and I could never 100% guess what was going to happen next (like you can in a lot of films).

Highly recommend this film to fans of the above films I mentioned - but not to Arnie fans.

There's a lot better films to watch than this one. I wish I'd just gone to bed.

Poor old Gabriel Byrne. He does a good job, not a great choice of film to be in though.

Arnie nuts might like it more but just watch Predator again.

I watched this film when it first came out 5 years ago, and it came up in a conversation recently, but its not what I remembered, I lost interest nearer the ending.

END OF DAYS stars Arnie at the end of the century, Satan visits New York in search of a bride. It's up to an ex-cop who now runs an elite security outfit to stop him. Arnie plays a down and out cop and the story is generally like a kind of serial killer action thriller that is be fairly good entertainment.
