Curious, almost plotless family comedy of the old school, with the difference that some grotesquerie and tastelessness is added. On the whole, however, an amusing entertainment for adults who don't mind their mood of sentimental nostalgia being tilted at

This flim takes place during a time in America before McDonald's & Disney when life was simple. All eight year old Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. All everyone tells him is he will shoot his eye out. It is a slice of life in a mid west town during the 50's. Written and narrated by Jean Shepherd a humorist and radio personality of the 50's & 60's.

This movie was filmed in St. Catharines, Canada - Since old midwestern 'burbs such as those shown in the movie didn't really exist by 1982. I used to live in St. Catharines. And guess what? Thats the only interesting thing about this well-worn, sentimentalist dirgefest. It's the reason we put the Romonovs against the wall. Deny!
