Brief synopsis of Amnesia

After seeing no end to his passionate affair with his son's teacher Veronica Gow, Paul Keller the married and guilt-stricken minister of Hollow Lake gives in to desire and sin and plots to fake his death in order to run away with her, leaving his wife with the insurance money. But things gets really interesting while he's planting his evidence. He bangs his head and is left with only shadowy memories of his life. The incoherent minister happens upon the isolated motel where he's due to meet Veronica, but becomes unwittingly embroiled in a strange relationship with hotel manager Charlene...

A small-town minister and his son's schoolteacher carry on an affair at a local motel. But unbeknownst to the adulterers, they are being watched by the unhinged motel manageress who develops a fixation on the minister. When he eventually suffers a bout of amnesia, she pounces and makes him her sex slave prisoner. A couple of twists, but few surprises, are on offer in an average conspiracy thriller which coasts by on the promise of unfulfilled titillation.

Rated - 1 starsAmnesia; loss of memory or muddle?

The film I put on my list as Amnesia was billed in a catalogue as ?one of the best films to come out of Chile?. I failed to spot the difference and so got this one instead. Coming to it with no fixed ideas in mind I watched patiently to see what would happen. Things moved slowly and the characters seemed to live in separate worlds so that I never got a full picture of any of them. I was shown just enough to move the story along, but both the characters and the plot creaked as they developed.

Although things in general moved slowly some episodes were almost instant events that were hard to believe. After some steamy bed scenes, and some gory gun wounds a conclusion was reached, but the number of loose ends left unresolved made for strong disappointment and a slightly bad taste in the mouth.

Rated - 1 starsI wish I had Amnesia

This was a dreadful movie

weak story line

less than convincing performances

I felt nothing for the characters

the sulking man of the cloth

was just an infuriating drip in a dog collar.

Even the sex could not save it

Time would be better spent sleeping
