This Paul Newman at his best. He is an aging builder at a cross roads in his life, his knee is blown, he has fallen out with the big man in town (Bruce Willis), and his landlady's son (Dan Akroyd) wants to shut down her boarding house. Throw into the mix his flirtations with Bruce's wife, played very seductively by Melanie Griffiths, a chance meeting with his estranged son, and his business going down hill rapidly, and you have a real life story with no frills or fancies. Newman is this character, he has humour and intelligence and guts!

Nobody's Fool is a great book and this film doesn't do it justice. Melanie Griffiths and Bruce Willis were woefully miscast. The humour and warmth is lost. However, it's not terrible and worth watching on a wet afternoon.
