Brief synopsis of Fear X

This psychological thriller follows one ordinary man's obsession with finding his wife's killer. Harry Caine (John Turturro) is a security guard of a shopping mall, and when his wife is murdered in the mall's car park, he begins to obsessively study the CCTV footage of the area in the hope that it might reveal the answer, the face of the killer. Pictures of potential 'suspects' now adorn his walls as his compulsion grows, and he believes he's getting close...

I read some of the above comments and so rented this film.

Well it just goes to show how diverse our tastes can be.

I'm afraid the film was a total and utter let down.

Very boring, and I have to say, pointless.

The film reminded me of another film I had rented earlier, Red Lights, that was another 'arty' movie type but also a poor choice.

Still its great that we don't all enjoy the same things in life, now that would be boring !

This is one of the best films I've ever seen. Yet I'm still not sure what it was all about!

Anyone who likes David Lynch films will love this too. It's Lynch with even more obscurity, intrigue and imagination.

A darkly strange masterpiece

A tense, atmospheric thriller that keeps you watching but if there was ever a need for bonus features giving alternative endings, this was it !!

This film is an ode to Lynch's work but comes up well short of the great man's work. I found it unconvincing and a bit dull. It's a very slow film and not in a good way. Turturro is always worth watching but he's not given much to do here, aside from looking lugubrious. There are some interesting ideas here but the narrative is constantly undermined by the director's work.

Rated - 5 starsSuperb Compelling Psycholigical thriller.

Michael Harby from Derbyshire , 23/11/2004

This is a real gem of a film starring one of the best actors in the game - John Turturro.

A man searches for his wife's killer from the cctv footage at his place of work. Feeling sure that he is there somewhere.

Deeply troubled by nightmares of his wife with a huge sense of loss. He must find her killer, even if it's just to find out why she was killed. So that he can find release.

The film builds tension by slow pacing, dream sequences and a wonderfully chilling soundtrack. Very similar in technique to the excellent One Hour Photo.

Turturro relies on his amazing acting ability on facial expressions of every emotion imaginable, rather than just acting the script. Rather like Michael Caine's scene in Get Carter where he watches the home movie.

To get an idea of the depth of his acting and ability - watch the making of featurette to see him get into character before a scene and also about his nights of not being able to sleep.

Great support from James Remar (The Warriors) & Debroah Unger.

Superb direction from Nicolas Winding Refn which I believe is his first English language film. Showing wonderful technique and cinematography. Great use of sound and colour.
