Brief synopsis of Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask

A side-splitting send-up in the form of seven humorous sketches of the human sex drive and the absurd behavior it can lead to in which an average middle-aged Jewish man sneaks upstairs to try on a dinner hostess's dresses, Wilder falls gradually in love with a sheep, and Allen's girlfriend can only reach satisfaction by having sex in public places, all of which lead to disastrous embarrassments for all concerned. A true comedy masterpiece based loosely on the book by Dr. David Reuben.

Woody Allen's third outing as actor/writer/director — made in the days when his films were largely an excuse to string together a relentless series of gags — is one of his least satisfying pictures, but this seven-story sex-manual parody does have its redeeming features. The razor-sharp Michelangelo Antonioni spoof and Lou Jacobi's ill-timed experiment in cross-dressing are neatly done, but Gene Wilder's affair with a sheep is rather woolly and the “What's My Perversion?” panel game quickly runs out of steam. The less said about the dismal sex clinic and chastity belt sequences the better. Intermittently hilarious, the best is left to last, as Woody and his fellow sperms prepare to parachute to unknown glory under the watchful eye of brain controller Tony Randall.

Typical Woody Allen film, with tongue in cheek comedy, which makes you laugh then scold yourself for doing so. It is obvious from the title but this film or mini films as it is, is all about sex, nothing really anything new and no you wont learn anything new from this unless your a 15 year old, if that. It is worth a look purely because theres nothing else like it. Brutally honest and laugh out loud fun, best not watched with the parents though.

I was expecting great things, being a Woody Allen fan, but this was a major disappointment. 35 minutes watched and not a smile raised I found it to be a bit too 'Carry On'.

Try 'Everyone Says I Love You', 'Husbands and Wives' or 'Hannah and her Sisters' instead.

While this film wasn't without it's funny moments (witness the cross-dressing scene), most of the humour is tedious and very dated. I found most of the sketches dragged on too long, and wasn't particularly interested in any of the stories. It's not a BAD film, but not one I'd consider worth renting.
