Brief synopsis of Miami Blues

Junior (Alec Baldwin), an ex-con psychopath who sets twisted goals and achieves them at any cost, meets his match in Hoke Moseley (Fred Ward), a weather-beaten Miami detective who attempts to avenge Junior's antics when the lifelong criminal steals the detective's badge, gun, and even his false teeth and poses a Miami police officer. Along the way he also meets Susie (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a hooker who wants to live happily ever after and unfolds another chapter in Junior's fast-paced life.

Rating of 4 stars out of 5 Radio Times

Alec Baldwin has never been better than in his role here as a vicious ex-con who takes up with naive hooker Jennifer Jason Leigh in Miami. Things get complicated when he steals investigating cop Fred Ward's gun, badge and false teeth and sets about robbing and shooting just about everyone in his path, while masquerading as a police officer. An absorbing, gripping (and often very violent) battle of wits, this has some wonderfully dark comic moments and boasts three superb performances from the stars.

A great early role for Alec Baldwin - showcasing his obvious talent that he squandered on crappy roles over the next few years. Jennifer Jason Leigh is as great as always, and a splendid turn from Fred Ward as the put-upon copper really makes this a worthwhile retro rental. If you havn't seen this, then you ought to!

Alec Baldwin has a great role as a connman who uses a rather simple prostitute as a cover for his deeds. He steals an investigators gun, badge and bizarely his false teeth too and plays at being a policeman for a bit, before robbing to keep his lifestyle going. The first time I watched it I thought it was crap, but then I tried it again and really enjoyed it. Well worth sticking with it on reflection.

Jennifer Jason Leigh, you got to she her in the buff...you will in this movie.
