Brief synopsis of Babycart At The River Styx

BABY CART AT THE RIVER STYX, the second of the classic LONE WOLF AND CUB samurai films, finds Ogami Itto (Tomisaburo Wakayama) and his infant son continuing on their bloody path of vengeance. This time they seek the shadowy Yagyu clan, who try to kill the father and son--first by sending their female ninja warriors and then the sadistic, self-proclaimed Gods of Death.

Rating of 3 stars out of 5 Radio Times

Known as Shogun Assassin and containing 12 minutes' footage from its predecessor, Sword of Vengeance, the second Lone Wolf and Cub movie earned notoriety in the 1980s when it was branded a video nasty. Tomisaburo Wakayama returns as Ogami Itto, the disgraced executioner who supplements his sword skills with the blades studding his baby son Daigoro's pram. But while he's allowed a few moments to reflect on the pain of both losing his wife and being betrayed by his brethren, his primary purpose is to shed blood, which he does with awesome power thanks to Kenji Misumi's frenetic direction.

Rating of 2
stars out of 4 Halliwell's Film Guide

A cut above routine martial arts movies, though one in which blood gushes and spurts in copious quantities; the emphatic, shadowy directorial style is influenced by Sergio Leone, and the many fights are imaginatively staged.

Amazing must see violence with an underlying sense of humour. Neat plotline but odd surrealistic moments of still camerawork which add up to nothing actually help when the all out violence kicks in. Must see.

Two words: F***ing awesome.

Babycart illustrates why the samurai film is one of the best action genre's in the world.

The simplicity of the fight sequences is what makes it stand out from any other samurai film.

A classic and a must for every fan of Kill Bill.

Another excellent episode of the lone wolf and cub series. Superbly violent and tense.

This is the film Tarantino wanted 'Kill Bill' to be.

Rated - 4 starsAt the crossroads of hell

A customer from Sheffield, UK , 01/08/2005

I highly recommend this movie and the rest of the series to anyone. Good action, deep samurai spirituality..but it is reminiscent of old school kung-fu films in terms of quality, some bad editing, bad transfer to dvd, dark scenes, but if u can get over thoese things...it is a great viewing experience.

Awesome second movie in the series and without a doubt if you've seen shogun Assassin you need to see all the BabyCarts you will be able to follow the story much better than the heavily cut Showgun Asssassin.
