Brief synopsis of I Witness

Rhodes, an American human rights activist, arrives at a small Mexican border town to help oversee union elections at a factory owned by a United States company. He soon discovers that things have been happening around the town with people disappearing or being shot in a tunnel across the border in the States and he suspects it has something to do with the upcoming election. Along with a local police detective, Castillo, he investigates the problem.

Rated - 2 starsbit disappointing

Toyed with a 3 for this one, but finally settled on a 4. Trouble is that me and my dear hubby fell asleep, even though we were both vaguely intrigued about one particular aspect of the story. I woke up about 10 minutes before the end to find a pretty decent ending to an otherwise mediocre film. Hence the 4. Stick with it if you're beginning not to care; the ending is worth hanging on for.

Rated - 2 starsUnder whelming film with a clever surprise

milnerv from Dorset , 09/09/2005

This film feels as if it was made for TV or straight to DVD.

The story of a human rights field official in the doldrums of a long career monitoring the election for union representation at a US company’s factory in Mexico, who becomes caught up in a bizarre mass killing, police corruption and a mysterious drug cartel has all the ingredients for a good thriller.

However the story lingers over the decline of the activist instead of the fine potential for action and drags until about fifteen minutes from the end when there is an extraordinary change of pace and you become completely involved until the very unusual ending.

I think the fault lies with the director more than the actors and screenplay, so make your mind up, is it worth viewing over an hour for a clever surprise?
