Brief synopsis of Radio

Set in South Carolina and spanning almost 40 years time beginning in the 1960s, RADIO is the moving story of the friendship between a mentally disabled man (played by Cuba Gooding Jr. in adulthood) and the high school football coach (Ed Harris) who gives him guidance, hope, and confidence. Growing up in the all-American small town of Anderson, South Carolina "Radio" is a social outcast who lives a lonely, childish existence. He's obsessed with his transistor radio and wanders the streets with a shopping cart full of collected junk. Because of his mental disability, Radio is misunderstood by the local townsfolk and is often the victim of mean-spirited pranks. After the local high school football team plays a particularly cruel prank on the naive young man, the team coach decides to mentor Radio. Coach Jones staunchly supports Radio and their bond becomes unbreakable. A devoted football fan, Radio blossoms under the unwavering encouragement of the Coach and becomes the team's unofficial mascot and cheerleader. Ultimately the town is united by Radio's innocence and basic human goodness in this warmhearted drama inspired by a true story.

written and acted in a forrest gumpesque kind of way this will not dissapoint. If only for the pure reason that you dont really expect too much before you have actually seen it.

The title and box cover pretty much tell the whole story .

nicely shot with no nasty camera angles, comfortable soundtrack, easy on the eye.Everything is pretty average.

Bar one. Cuba himself, Excellent, as always. He seems never to fail in any role, even if the rest of the castaround him do not inspire.Material such as this has to be handled carefully, and it has, being based on factual people and semi factual events, everything gels into place fairly comfortably.Although american football will never really be an enthralling subject for most europeans. Unfortunately it all results in a film which entertains and warms the heart, but ultimately doesnt make you want to come back to see it again and again. definately one to rent and not to own.

A film for both nan/grandad and auntie Flo to watch when they come round. so a possible recommendation for christmas when they repeat only fools and horses...again.

Rated - 5 starsbrilliant movie well acted by ed harris and cuba good jnr

A customer from hertfordshire, england , 05/11/2004

I think cuba gooding jnr should have got an oscar for his acting in this film. Heartwarming, often funny, tear jearker sums this film up. The friendship that builds up between ed harris and cuba good jnr is often a sad and happy one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film from start to finish. Definately one to see.

Rated - 4 starsThat sunday movie!

RichyBoy from Kent , 23/09/2004

The film is well acted out by Cuba Gooding Jr, who plays a 'retarded' male who doesn't really know how to interact with people but finds security in a portable radio he listens to.

'Coach' tries to change things by taking 'Radio' into his school and giving him odd jobs, the coaches players and workmates take various different opinions about radios appearance on the scene.

An enjoyable movie to watch, almost brings a tear to the eye...almost! An ideal film to watch on a wet sunday afternoon, seems to brighten your day.

Rated - 5 starsGreat Movie!

Sean Kelly from London, England , 23/04/2005

This movie presents some moral issues which touch the heart and gives one the opportunity to consider the important things in life. It shows the value of human life and the reward that inevitably comes from doing what is right in a difficult situation. The closing song sums it up ? If we are all God?s children then the stranger next to you is really your brother. Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding Jr put in amazing performances. I highly recommend it.

Rated - 5 starsHeartwarming & sentimental

straycatz from Berks , 07/11/2004

What a great movie this was, heartwarming and and endearing to see that we can still triumph over the human condition.

This lovely film about how a small town in South Carolina comes to hold dear a man with severe learning difficulties and embrace him as one of their own is by far one of the best films I have seen this year.
