I never thought Daniel Barenboim as a Mahler conductor, but more Mozart. However, he produces a superb interpretation of a symphony which belonged to Mahler's so-called middle period when his compositions brought music finally into the 20th Century. Overall, its wonderfully played, isnt rushed, and is allowed to flow naturally from one movement to another. Of course, the highlight of the work is the famous Adagietto wrongfully linked to Venice owing to the famous film more than anything else. Very good balanced sound and superb picture quality too.
