Brief synopsis of The Perfect Score

High school senior Kyle (Chris Evans) gets a major shock when he discovers his SAT score isn't good enough to get him into college as an architecture major. A perfectionist, Kyle's resilient nature is sparked when he embroils his best friend Matty (Bryan Greenberg) in a madcap scheme to steal the SATs. The boys soon realize the enormity of the task ahead of them, and recruit an eclectic bunch of willing accomplices to help. Among their group are Francesca (Scarlett Johansson), an anti-authoritarian hipster whose father happens to work in the building where the elusive test scores are kept; Anna (Erica Christensen), an overachiever who flunked the test due to nerves; Desmond (Darius Miles), the school's star basketball player who wants to get into a good college; and Ray (Leonardo Nam), a hapless stoner who is only included in the group after overhearing Kyle and Matty planning the robbery in the school bathroom. Determined not to fail, the students overcome their different backgrounds and manage to work together by planning an SAT heist in meticulous detail. As the harebrained scheme becomes a reality, moments of bonding, hilarity, and a few lessons in life ensue, as well as a sly critique of the tests along race and gender lines.

Stressed-out older kids coping with exam pressure might find a little to identify with in this below-par teen comedy, but everyone else would be advised to give it a miss. A group of high-schoolers desperate to get into university are led by Jason Priestley-lookalike Chris Evans in a plan to steal the question papers for a vital aptitude test. All the Breakfast Club-inspired stereotypes are present and correct: the jock, the stoner, the brain … and so on. What isn't in evidence is any particular charm, or much of the genuine angst that afflicts adolescents come exam time, which could have elevated this into something more than the derivative caper movie it turns out to be.

If you are an american teenager about to sit your SAT exams then you may find this film OK... if not then don't bother it's terrible. Who cares about american teens complaining about having to take exams and then trying to steal the exam paper? not me.

If you can remember those great John Hughes films of the 80’s. In particular the breakfast club, then this film follows a similar pattern.

The only trouble is it isn’t a patch on the aforementioned title. I really tried to enjoy this one, but apart from the delightful Scarlet Johansen, who was the standout actor in this film, it falls on it's face.

The acting by the rest of the crew leave’s a bit to be desired, Chris Evans plays the main role, but he really does fall short, there was no charisma in his acting, and his presence on screen was that of a single chip lying in a bag of chips. He was to a degree overshadowed by Brian Greenberg who played his best friend in the movie.

Also, the idea of bringing in a real life basketball player may have seemed a good idea on paper, but the reality was, the guy can’t act, and this consequently let the movie down even more.

I also found the joker of the group very annoying, and a lot of his antics were not funny in the slightest. Mind you, I’ve never been one to laugh out loud at people being constantly stoned. They went the wrong route with this character, which is a shame because I believe Leo Nam could be a lot funnier than what we see of him in this movie.

All in all, it is decidedly average, and I think it will struggle to captivate the casual movie follower. Shame really.

This is simply dreadful. There is a nice enough idea for a high school comedy here with even a hint of social comment (the usefulness and biased nature of standardised testing) but unfortunately the script plods lazily through every high school cliche with one dimensional characters and virtually no jokes.

There's also a really embarassing 'Matrix' send up which is shoe horned in for no purpose.

I only give it one star more than the minimum for the presence of Scarlett Johansen, but I can't see this ranking high on her C.V.

It has a slow start but once you get into it, it does become watchable. The characters do fit the average mould used in this type of predictable movie that Hollywood spits out.
