Brief synopsis of Peep Show - Series 1

Welcome to the private world of Jeremy and Mark - two very ordinary weirdos. Peep Show is the innovative comedy series from Channel 4 seen through the eyes of the core characters. In an inventive twist, their inner thoughts and feelings can be heard - whether they be dark, stupid or embarrassingly over-blown. Wannabe popstar Jeremy (Robert Webb) is a lazy man with big ideas, mostly about himself. He has been thrown out by his ex 'Big Suze' and has ended up living with Mark (David Mitchell), his old friend, who has a completely different no-pain-no-gain view of the world. Socially dysfunctional in their different ways, Mark and Jeremy have an unhealthy reliance on one another - a dependence that can turn to frustration. And to further complicate their existence, Mark - in his cack-handed way - is in pursuit of the love of his life, co-worker Sophie (Olivia Colman), while Jeremy lives in awe of his idiotic and manipulative mate Super Hans and their beautiful but brittle neighbour Toni.

Rated - 5 starsA comedy classic in the making

Christopher Hunt from Bristol , 12/02/2005

Sheer brilliance. The concept of hearing the thoughts of the two social misfits both adds another level to the comedy and allows one self to identify with the ideas being put across.

The characters consider themselves to be so different yet they are essentially the same. Having to ability to drop social faux pas and a distinct inability to achieve their goals.

The characters are both believable and engaging, and all this before a mention of the comedy. Once again it echoes brilliance both in its material and delivery. In short- a must see. If you don?t find this funny seek medical assistance.

Rated - 5 starsJeepers Peepers

Definitely one of the most under-rated shows of recent times. I only heard about this show at the end of the second series, so I was glad to go back and see how it all began. I wasn’t disappointed, although Peep Show won't have you rolling round the floor in fits of laughter, I get the impression it was never meant to (for belly laughs try the classics – One Foot…, Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers etc).

The humour here is far more subtle and plays on the neurosis and inner thoughts of two twenty something guys who share a flat. This is more than The Odd Couple, and Men Behaving Badly (although certain elements are visible), Peep Show takes the oldest rule of situation comedy – characters that are stuck together, and although they may not always like each other, they need each other to survive.

Peep Show is the very essence of black comedy, cringe-worthy, poignant, subtle and above all will make you glad the bad things in life are happening to someone else.

Rated - 5 starsGround Breaking Comedy!

Kye Cole from Uxbridge, England , 23/01/2006

This brillient comedy speaks volumes about the quality produced in Britain now days!

It is truley ground breaking in it's style, production, direction and writing.

This new second series follows on superbly, and evolves the original character's, as well as introducing a few new characters with great sucess.

Fans of series one will not be disappointed with this new second installment.

It's no coincidence that the unique asset of hearing the protagonists’ thoughts is the funniest thing about peep show, alone with masterful performances from the two lead actors.

Both David Mitchell (Mark)and Robert Webb (Jeremy) will have you in stitches, as they aimlessly try and move onwards and upwards in their lives, hopelessly wrecking any ill thought out plan as soon as they get the chance. Peep show's one-liners had me laughing harder than i've laughed in a long time. It's at times politically incorrect content just proves to be another refreshing aspect of peep show.

The 'Super-Hanz' character is also a stroke of comic genius!

This series is definitely on a par with 'Father Ted' and 'The Office' and stands head and shoulders above programmes like 'Little Britain'.

This masterpiece MUST be recognised soon, and i predict will pick up a few awards in 2006!

A must see!!

Rated - 5 starsThe One That Nearly Got Away

mixu from london , 04/02/2005

Only started watching Series 2 when I got so bored of Max and Paddy. Someone told me that Series 1 was a bit raw and less polished but I'd say at least half the episodes are up there with Series 2. I can't stress enough how this really is a fantastically well written and superbly acted dark masterpiece.

I have to disagree with the other reviewer who suggested it wasn't that sort of comedy. Peep Show has some pant-wettingly funny moments with the episode in the bowling alley (I think it's number 3) widely judged to be the best. If you liked Alan Partridge or The Day Today you'll love this. If you like My Family you won't.

Rated - 5 starsPainful... but painfully funny

Laura from London, UK , 08/11/2006

This is just great. Sick and wrong and so, so, so wonderful! I laughed until I cried, and some of the time I just sat there with my mouth open wondering if it is really OK to laugh... shock always gives way to more laughs though. Not for everyone but if you like your humour very dark and very funny then there is a lot of pleasure to be found here...
