Rated - 5 starsMuch better than the first...

This is by far much better than its predescessor.

This story is more vivid and engaging, while the animation is breathtakingly gorgeous.

Rogue Dunpeal D is hired to track down a man's only daughter in the hope that she hasn't been 'taken' by her abductor, a vampire.

The story sees the mysterious D on the trail of the ruthless vampire Meir Link, who also happens to be the target of the Markus Brothers - slayers of the undead.

A well planned story with great visuals to boot, don't be put off by the first release of Vampire Hunter D, because this one lays it to rest.

Rated - 4 starsSO much better than the first

If you saw the first, don't let it put you off seeing this far superior sequel. With excellent, atmospheric animation, passable dubing (if you must), and an interesting plot and climactic showdown ending, complete with vampire hunters in a ridiculous (but brilliant) armour-plated Mad Mad style trunk thing. A visual treat.

Rated - 4 starsA beautifully crafted and gripping piece of animation

The quality of Japanese animation continues to astound me and this superb sequel didn't disappoint.

The film basically follows D as he tracks down a girl who's been 'kidnapped' by a the usual forces of evil before she's turned 'to the darkside'. There's also some crazy Mad Max-esque team trying to do the same and beat D to the big cash payout. But all is not what it seems...

As far as animation and plot go, this far surpasses the original, which you don't need to have seen to enjoy this. The dubbing was OK (one of my biggest pet hates with anime)and the characters had real depth for a change.

One of the best people, if just for the beautiful animation. If you're new to anime, try it, you might just like it and if you're an old hand at this manga lark...why haven't you seen it yet?

Rated - 5 starsAction-packed and surprisingly sensitive anime

Whilst I've only seen a few snippets of the original Vampire Hunter D anime series, Bloodlust seems to be leaps and bounds beyond it, in terms of visuals, animation, depth and character.

Bloodlust is nothing if not beautiful, and the action scenes, when they come, really do provide some amazing spectacle. Fortunately, this is not a shallow film. The characters are mostly strong and individual. The titular D, a half-human half-vampire 'dunpeal', is quiet, strong and reclusive, having had his trust betrayed by those he protects many times.

The Marcus Brothers, another band of vampire hunters, are a fair mix - Grove is an ambiguous and sadly under-used character, Leila a vampire hunter since her family were slaughtered, and Borgoff, Kyle and Nolt are gung-ho brothers (fairly weak characters, but so it goes). More interesting are Meier and Charlotte, a vampire kidnapper and his kidnappee.

There's something here for both action junkies, and those who appreciate a bit of character interplay and storytelling, tragedy and romance.
