Brief synopsis of Nine Dead Gay Guys

The story of two gay Irish lads who travel to London to make their fortune in London's seedy underworld. When a client dies halfway through a business transaction, they are forced to seek alternative employment - but when they hear about the myth of 'the bread in the bed' they set their sights a little higher.

Rating of 2 stars out of 5 Radio Times

Overloaded with on-screen graphics, directorial gimmicks and punning names unworthy of a Carry On movie, Lab Ky Mo's debut seeks to shock with its politically incorrect caricatures and self-conscious bad taste. But, in fact, it's nowhere near outrageous enough, either to work as a black comedy or as an in-joke on the London gay scene. Most successful is the running gag about Irish rent boys Brendan Mackey and Glenn Mulhern's insistence that they're straight while seeking an enormous pile of money following the deaths of wealthy queen Michael Praed and kinky widower Steven Berkoff. Overall, this is blithely crude entertainment, but what it lacks is wit.

Rated - 1 starshow to fail in making a film

Rehan from London , 20/01/2005

People wonder why the British film industry is in the doldrums. Well, ask yourself why unmitigated twaddle like this exceptionally boring film could get past the introductory stages.

That anyone could actually fund this rubbish is a mystery, and if any of the actors involved don't see this as a black mark in their careers, they should give up the day job.

Unfortunately, though it tries, it isn't even non-PC anough to be amusing. It's just dire beyond belief.

If this is the best that can be done in this country, then roll on the Hollywood takeover.

I saw this film at last years Manchester Mardi Gras Film festivel.

It is one of the funniest films I have seen.

I think some of the humour may be lost on a straight audience but I would reccomemd this film to everyone. Cant wait to see it again.

Look out for the Two Old Ladies on the park bench! a brilliant scene!.

Rated - 5 starsHilarious

Stereotype peoples and situations or not I can't see how anyone, hetero or gay, could possibly find offence in this little gem of a film. It's one big laugh helped no end by the infectuous duo of Glenn Mulhern and Brendan Mackey. I haven't laughed so much since 'Loot' in the 70s, and that's quite something.

Rated - 5 starsGreat film

A customer from Manchester , 20/03/2005

I hardly stopped laughing throughout this film. Don't know whether I have a sick sense of humour or this is a really funny film, a friend of the main character turns up from Ireland and the bodies start to pile up, usually after he has had sex with them. I'll be buying this movie as I know that I'll watch it a lot more than once.

Rated - 5 starsOne of the funniest films in years

Doogie from Lincolnshire , 14/01/2006

This has to be one of the funniest films I have ever had the pleasure of watching.

Funny, witty and outrageously hilarious.

You must rent this movie, please ignore the people that feel that they can review a film when they haven’t even watched it “I think I made it to dead gay guy no2 before switching off”.

Genuine reviews are welcome whether good or bad; just make sure you have actually watched it before commenting on it.

Rated - 1 starsSorry Lab, it's awful

anon aquantance of director from London , 29/07/2006

Hmmm… I have to confess that I knew Lab, the writer/director of this film, though I had no idea about his work until I saw him in the commentary. Thankfully, not in touch with him now so I don’t have to deal with the awkward issue of how totally dire this film is. I have to say I am in complete agreement with ‘a customer from Bournemouth’ and share their astonishment that anyone could find a shred of credibility to the film let alone regard it as the funniest film this year/decade/in the universe etc. This is not because I am a prissy poof who is easily offended, but whatever sublime irony was intended by Lab (and he’s not homophobic racist or anything-else-ist) was so utterly obscure as to be pointless. The plot is appallingly absurd and unqualifiedly implausible and it’s not, unfortunately redeemed by the perfs of Berkof et al. The idea of a couple of grannies discussing gay sex is jaw-droppingly clichéd and worthy of a third-rate media studies A-level student. The only real glimmer of interest came when the undeniably cute Irish debutant revealed that he had a dick the size of a cattle prod. However not only do we not get to see it, but it was a fact inexplicably over-looked by the lucky owner for almost the entire film despite it being central to the so-called plot. I congratulate Lab on getting the funding and wish him success for the future. He’s obviously managed to please many punters, but for my money he’ll have to do better than this.
