In his debut feature, Lonely Hearts Club, Taiwanese director Yee Chih-Yen focused on a woman who discovers that her heart's desire is gay. For his follow-up movie, Yee transfers that scenario to a Taipei high school. This time it's swimming star Chen Bo-Lin who realises that the boyish Guey Lun-Mei would rather be canoodling with her best friend, Liang Shu-Hui — a situation made all the more awkward as Guey was supposed to be interceding with Chen on Liang's behalf. The easy byplay between Chen and Guey is delightful, as the reticence of youth gives way to genuine affection, but the sweet story lacks originality.

Slight and charming movie of adolescent desires and confusions.

Rated - 4 starsQuirky and Cute - Accidentally (and Kelly Street)

Can you remember sneaking into the park after lights out and breaking the rules? Can you remember sitting next to the person you first wanted to kiss and taking hours to make the first move? Can you remember how deep you fell for your first love? Sure you can! That is why this film will make you smile - it is a universal story and one well told - and all the richer for being set in modern Taiwan. The two principle actors are excellent and engaging. The backdrop is local townsville Taiwan (don't expect great cinematic wide shots). This film is young. This film is about growing up, finding friends you can trust and, of course, falling in love. There is a gay element to the film but there is nothing here to offend anyone. Really. Very simple. Very sweet. Very good. Rent it.

I really enjoyed this film and almost give it 5 stars. The film draws you in gently and you care for and like the main 2 characters. The Mandarin dialogue and cinematography I feel add to this film. It's like a lot is expressed without much being expressed at all..rent it.

Rated - 4 starsDelightful story of first love

Kevan Brighting from Birmingham , 27/10/2005

A simple tale, beautifully acted by the two main leads, Blue Gate Crossing is a real 'feel-good' film. And a great soundtrack too!
