The Napoleon series is well worth renting. BUT - what a pity that there is no option to listen in French with or without English Subtitles.

Also disk 3 is just junk low level history and how the movie was made - hardly worth renting - stick to the first 2 disks.

Rated - 4 starsA Sumptous Reconstruction

A customer from london , 20/06/2005

I really enjoyed every minute of this. It was great to see one of those beautifully reconstructed historical dramas with a marvellous collection of stars. From the purely historical point of view it wasn't too hot as it glossed over a lot of detail of Napoleon's rise to power and some major campaigns got barely a mention. Still, who cares? I didn't realise until I watched it that it is in English - with some pretty funny accents from time to time. Great Entertainment.

Rated - 4 starsa good historical biopic

Yeah - I do actually believe there are good historical biopics: this is one of them.

Good storyline based on the Max Gallo novel, great cast, high production values, good DVD transfer.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. My husband is the one interested in the era. A hugh production, fantastic sets. However Napolean and everyone else for that matter didn't appear to change with the passing of the years - so it was difficult to get a sense of time.

John Malkevich was supberb as Talleyrand.
