Brief synopsis of Big Momma's House

Two features. In 'Big Momma's House' FBI Agent Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence) is a master of disguise who can transform himself to resemble anyone in order to crack a case. When a brutal criminal breaks out of prison to regain his hoard of stolen money, his former girlfriend Sherry (Nia Long) flees with her son to her childhood home in Georgia, where her grandmother Hattie Mae lives, known to her friends as Big Momma. The FBI learns that Big Momma has been called away suddenly on family business, and in order to keep Sherry under surveillance, Agent Turner must take on the role of a lifetime: Big Momma herself. Can Turner find out where the hidden money is and cook a southern-style dinner at the same time while also falling in love with the sweet, innocent Sherry. Also includes 'Big Momma's House 2'.

Rating of 3 stars out of 5 Radio Times

Martin Lawrence plays an “underblubber” agent in this mix of Stakeout and Mrs Doubtfire, trying to catch an escaped bank robber (Terrence Howard) by posing as the 300lb southern momma of the villain's ex-girlfriend (Nia Long). The comedy derives both from Lawrence's roly-poly impersonation and from his falling for the girl he's guarding. The humour is pretty obvious, but Lawrence works hard to give this one-joke film enough crowd-pleasing moments to justify the ticket price.

Premiere

"...[Lawrence is] an impressive, often hilarious sight....Its genial nature and sharp cast...put it over the top..." -- 3 out of 5 stars - A Satisfying Rental

Halliwell's Film Guide

Trite and flatulent lowbrow comedy that lacks character and charm, with Martin Lawrence once more content to be a unfunny clone of Eddie Murphy.

This is another Martin Lawrence hit, fans of his other movies will not be disapointed. Its 'Mrs Doubtfire' meets 'Blue Streak' (If you can imagine such a thing!) It is really entertaining and funny, great light-hearted stuff!

It was funny in places, but I just hate cope films that end in this was (as so many seem to do). The humour just made me cringe on the whole.

A few funny scenes but just the run of the mill family comedy. Nothing new.
