Brief synopsis of A Cinderella Story

Charles Perrault's 'Cinderella' is transposed to modern day San Fernando Valley in this high school teen lifestyle parody.

Rating of 2 stars out of 5 Radio Times

After bowling over adolescent girls in the Freaky Friday remake, Chad Michael Murray reinforces his pin-up status with another romantic role. In a high-school-set reworking of the Cinderella fairy tale, Murray's modern-day Prince Charming may do his wooing via cyberspace but he still manages to live up to the archetype. Little wonder, then, that orphaned student Hilary Duff is smitten by the initially anonymous, online sweet-talker, who's a dreamy diversion from the cruel demands of her self-obsessed stepmother (Jennifer Coolidge) and spiteful stepsisters. Visually Duff and Murray make a cute couple, even if neither are particularly charismatic, and their overall enthusiasm has a saccharine appeal. Unfortunately their performances are undermined by corny dialogue and a hackneyed plotline that updates the original story too literally. Though the cheeky humour has its occasional moments, as does the Pretty in Pink-style bitchiness, ultimately you need to be a pre-teen to appreciate this movie.

Halliwell's Film Guide

A more original story might have added a little vitality to this tired and saccharine confection for dim-witted lovers.

This was a great modern (realistic) version of the Disney Cinderella. If you liked disneys version you'll love this one

Great feel-good movie. Kids will love it, amazing modern look on the fairy tale 'Cinderella'. Sticks to the original story but in a very good and watchable fashion. Hilary Duff is very good and a few unknown actors are surprisingly good. Rent it if you've got kids!

Rated - 3 starsYou'll like it, but you won't admit it

One of those films a twenty something male wouldn't admit to liking to his friends down the pub, A Cinderella Story is a modern take on the fairytale that will please many.

Similar in style to the excellent Mean Girls, it has its laugh out loud moments (anything with Stifler's mum in it is okay by me) and plenty of eye candy for the reluctant boyfriend to drool over.

Perfect for all ages, with a final scene lifted by Jimmy Eat World's tearjerking ballad, this is a perfect cure for that saturday night hangover.

A feelgood movie that will lift all who watch it - recommended.

Rated - 3 starsNice Teen movie

Rented the film for my 15 year old daughter, who loved it so much I bought it for her for Christmas. Nice to see her watching something that isn't violent and full of four-letter words. Not for adults but recommended for teenage girls.
