What is it about the Americans? They produce so much high quality drama. The West Wing is intelligent, witty, profound and superbly well acted and directed. The US must be wishing that Jed Bartlett could be the real president.

Rated - 5 starsEven better

Not knowing how Channel 4 would mess around with future time slots I decided to rent ahead. A good decision. How amazing to be thrilled by the fifth season of this intelligent series. The writing, direction and acting is every bit as good as when it first started. Episode 8 was enthralling - it moved so swiftly and totally held my attention.

Put it on your priority list - you won't be disappointed!

Although the writing might not be quite as snapppy as in previous series (and we're mising Rob Lowe)this is still one of the best things on television.

Rated - 5 starsThe West Wing - drama at its best

Charles Stallard from Bedford, England , 06/08/2006

I was very disappointed when Channel 4 decided to show WW season 5, and beyond, on digital only. So I decided to rent and what a good move. Yes Sorkin is missed in the writing department and Rob Lowe is no longer with us. But WW is buzzing. The dialogue is snappy and very catching. You begin to hope that this is the way government is run. Yes it has its smaltzy episodes but these are far outweighed by the cracking ones. Other reviewers have opined about 'The Supremes' and I'll not argue about that. Plotlines weave in and out. I find the 'previously on The West Wing...' a great aide especially when it refers to something that occurred a few series ago.

If you are a fan of WW then you do not need telling. If you have heard of it and are interested start with season 1 because you need the benefit of the previous episodes in many cases. WW makes no compromises when it comes to knowledge of 'The American Constitution' or law and governance. But as one reviewer has already said, there's always Google.

They say that listening to 20 minutes of Mozart raises the IQ. I have found the same after an episode of WW. Now all I have to do is translate that into efficiency at work...
