Brief synopsis of Elektra

Shrouded by mystery. Tainted by tragedy. Trained to kill. Then left for dead. But for Elektra (Jennifer Garner - Alias, TV Series) death was just the beginning. Now she is back with a vengeance.

Rating of 2 stars out of 5 Radio Times

Daredevil's lady friend Elektra gets a solo outing in this insipid action adventure based on the spin-off Marvel comic book. Resuming events where the Ben Affleck vehicle ended, Jennifer Garner's kick-ass warrior is literally back from the dead and working as a hired assassin. But when she's asked to kill a father and daughter on the run from a supernatural martial arts syndicate known as The Hand, Elektra's past and conscience catch up with her. Cue lots of soul-searching and childhood flashbacks in an attempt to mask the plot's slenderness with emotion. When the fight action does erupt, it's unimpressive and quickly over, with the final confrontation between good and evil particularly anti-climactic. Although the film is glossy and stylish, Garner lacks the weight and charisma expected of her character and only the villains have any vitality, thanks to cool costumes and some fun SFX. As in Daredevil, however, they're sadly underused.

News Of The World

Just about the sexiest superhero film of all time ... butt-kicking extreme excitement and sizzling stunt sequences.

Time Out

A none too Marvel-lous spin-off from Daredevil, with willowy Garner reprising her role as sexy assassin... Read more on www.timeout.com

Jennifer Garner was great in 13 going on 30 and considering this title is in totally a different league to that one she plays Elektra with style. Appearing in Daredevil in which she died, you learn in this one that she was brought back to life by Stick (her mentor). After having nowhere to go she turns to the one thing she's great at, killing for a living. When a job comes up where she has to kill a father and his daughter who she has recently befriended she cannot go through with it and from there the story of Elektra and her new friends begin to unravel. This movie - Elektra is similar to Daredevil & Hulk so if you enjoyed those then this is one for you to watch.

Rated - 3 starsnot as bad as I expected...

well, as the title suggests, I didn't think this film was that bad at all. Pretty standard comic book stuff really - hero with lots of childhood flashbacks, over-the-top hollywood violence, bad guys with 'special weapons' etc etc etc. Its not on a par with the likes of Spiderman, X-Men or Batman Begins but it really isn't *that* bad. However that said, I didn't mind Daredevil either - I never understood why people criticised it so much. This isn't Halle 'can't act her way out of a paper bag' Berry in Catwoman, but at the same time this isn't as well-constructed as Spiderman...this is simply 'ok'. If you enjoyed Daredevil I think you will you probably find this watchable, if you didn't then its likely that you'd be better off with something else.

An action packed rollercoaster of entertainment.......sh*t, sorry, wrong film. This sucks. Elektra is on par with Daredevil, in that it is utterly crap. Flashbacks galore with a garnishing of over-stylised and boring fight sequences that involve a twelve year old brandishing a cheap necklace from Argos...apparently a useful weapon. The evil mob 'The Hand' come across as angsty teenagers, who seem only to be hindered by their exceptional powers. This film is worthy of nothing and is about as appealing as killing your own family. I dare you to rent it.

What was a glimmer of hope in the helpless Daredevil, in now a full blown fire in the stylish Elektra. At the end of Daredevil Elektra died, but now she is back, desperate for vengence and saddled with hellish nightmares, she now suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder, when she is sent to kill a young girl and her father, the last piece of humanity Elektra has pulls her through to the light side and she makes the hard desicion to help these seemingly helpless victims. What she doesn't realise is, is that they are being hunted by a powerful organization named simply The Hand.

Elektra works, because of Jennifer GArner, she manages to pull all the elements of this flick together and realy is a joy to see on the silver screen. I loved the way that Elektra wasn't just a usual comic book adventure, it does have a good dose of emotional resonance and the script is at times stunning. I can see why people didn't like it. It can be a bit slow and it does have continuity problems, but this really is a geat little flick, with great fight scenes and an emotionally fufilling ending.

Rated - 2 starsElektra fails to sparkle: no shock there...

benzb from Middlesex , 02/02/2005

Elektra dies at the end of Daredevil. Sorry for spoiling that, but it's something you'll need to know for this film. However, death presents few problems in the Marvel Universe, and Terence Stamp's blind sensei resurrects the basque-wearing beauty for the good of mankind. We learn that she isn't just a kick-ass assassin dressed like an Anne Summers mannequin, oh no: Elektra holds the balance between good and evil in the palm of her hand.

As expected, Jennifer Garner gives a disappointing performance, switching from cold-blooded killer to gooey romantic at the first sign of ER's Goran Visnjic. Terence Stamp, as Obi Wan to Elektra's petulant heroine, is similarly trite: a masterful underperformance of wise one-liners and nothing special.

Instead, the film’s emphasis seems to have been given to impressive special effects and some seriously terrifying villains. Despite being largely two dimensional, the members of The Hand are delightfully sinister; especially the one who can turn his numerous tattoos into living, snarling creatures.

But that’s not enough to save the film. Elektra’s plot is simple and unoriginal, contrasted with a complex background mythology left too unexplored. The only point of interest in the entire film is Elektra’s suspected Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which is hinted at once or twice but never made into much. For fans of the superhero genre, however, Elektra is sure to be a hit: far better than Hulk and The Punisher, only slightly worse than Daredevil, but sadly nowhere near the likes of Spiderman.
