Rated - 5 starsSlick & Scary

Interesting take on the usual 'haunted house' setting and a good slow building story with some truly scary moments along the way. Far superior to most of your low-budget (or big-budget!) horror of late and well worth checking out for the strong cast & directing.

Rated - 4 starsDead Birds Walking

A customer from UK , 06/06/2005

A nicely atmospheric period horror story, Dead Birds? ambition is let down by budgetary restraints. As with many other low-budget horror movies, there is the impression that some scenes are missing or that some shots could have done with another take ? something prevented by a tight schedule.

Still, what is here is pretty entertaining. A group of deserters during the American civil war, gorily rob a bank then lay low in a deserted plantation. Naturally, the place is not quite as deserted as they hoped and things get very strange indeed. Thankfully, the antagonist here is not some masked slasher archetype, but something owing more to the work of H.P. Lovecraft ? concrete explanations are mercifully dispensed with, but clues are dropped for the curious. It?s a shame, therefore, that the atmospheric and slow build-up gives way to a slightly rushed conclusion and that Henry Thomas is still a little too fresh-faced to entirely convince as the ruthless leader of a gang of murderers.

For what it is, though, Dead Birds is an interesting and enjoyable little shocker. No masterpiece, but nicely done.

Rated - 3 starsWhat a supprise!

This is a film that you need to keep watching, If you miss one second you may loose what is happening. However, once you get through all the twist and turns this film has, it was a surprise and a well worth it. I can say go on rent it if you like blood and guts and yes you will also be surprised too.

Rated - 1 starsDull and very predictable

Michael from Brighton, England , 14/07/2006

The film starts life looking interesting, but quickly bogs itself down. About half way through, when things were looking obviously tedious, someone seems to have thought, 'I saw The Ring so let's use those effects', which doesn't work. The 'scary' effects don't work at all; they're obvious and predictable. Then this film rapidly becomes a 'running around in a cornfield until we all die' film, and even then, a very lame one. Those responsible for this mess should stack shelves or clean toilets for a living, not make films.
