When Jane Fonda returned to our screens with 'Monster In Law', her electifying performance in an largely undeveloped movie, served as a startling reminder of her formiddable talent.
At the height of her political activism, Fonda delivered an oscar-winning performance as the call-girl Bree Daniels who joins forces with Donald Sutherland's private detective to investigate a number of murders.
In this vision of 1970s New York, eyes are everywhere, but clear sight is far from certain.
The screenplay is an example of master storyelling, thrillingly enlivened by the performances. Exposing the banality of 'Pretty Woman'-esque respresentations, Fonda's prostitute is at once a victim and a resourceful mistress of her own destiny.
With Donald's worldly investigator, the pair ignite a almost permanent noturnal skyline to create one of most gripping films of the decade.
