Brief synopsis of French Kiss

A woman (Meg Ryan) with a phobia about flying gets caught up with a shady French smuggler (Kevin Kline) while on a flight to Paris to retrieve her wayward boyfriend (Timothy Hutton). The charming film is director Lawrence Kasdan's first stab at the romantic comedy.

Rating of 3 stars out of 5 Radio Times

Probably the most lightweight of Lawrence Kasdan's movies, this is bit of a disappointment if judged in comparison with his other films. However, if you manage to banish The Big Chill and The Accidental Tourist from your mind, you can still enjoy the amiably fluffy confection. Meg Ryan, in her trademark “ever-so-ditzy” mode, sets off for France to reclaim wandering fiancé Timothy Hutton, only to find herself stuck with slobby French thief Kevin Kline. The latter's role was reported to have been created for Gérard Depardieu, but Kline acquits himself well as the Gallic rogue, and the chemistry between him and Ryan is spot on.

Halliwell's Film Guide

A tourist trip around the more photogenic parts of Paris, providing a background to a lacklustre love story between two incompatible people, which offers nothing that hasn't been done rather better before.

Time Out

This is a tissue-thin affair tarted up with phoney continental charm. Kate, a skittish control freak (Ryan), follows... Read more on www.timeout.com

Rated - 5 starsMeg Kisses the part!

I love this film. It has some things that don't feel right at first, Kevin Kline with a french accent(?) ...but it slowly grows on you. Meg Ryan is at her comic best. She uses her body language and vocal chords better than Chaplin and Striesand, respectively, even tho' she doesn't sing a note! But listen out for Kline finishing the soundtrack with his rendition of a Bobby Darin number and anyone who doesn't think the final scene is romantic with a capital 'R' needs hormone treatment!

This title should be found in a dictionary under the phrase 'romantic comedy' it is great fun from beginning to end. Definitely a feel-good film, candy-floss for the mind, but who cares? This is just for fun.

Typical comedy film from the 1990's - predictable, sterotyped characters and story line.

OK to watch while relaxing at the weekend.
