Brief synopsis of Scary Movie

In the tradition of such genre parodies as AIRPLANE!, THE NAKED GUN, and SPACEBALLS, Keenen Ivory Wayans takes on the teen horror flick with SCARY MOVIE, a campy, riotous send-up of everything from the SCREAM and HALLOWEEN franchises to I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, CARRIE, and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. In a small town, a copycat is reenacting the SCREAM murders, and local reporter Gail Hailstorm will do just about anything to get the story. The six high school students who ran over a man on a sharp curve the year before think the killer is out for revenge, but sweet and innocent Cindy Campbell believes that the madman might just lurk a lot closer to home.
Cowritten by Shawn and Marlon Wayans (and four others), the script leaves no cliche unturned; in addition to the horror parodies, the film also spoofs such teen sex comedies as AMERICAN PIE and such hit films as THE SIXTH SENSE, THE MATRIX, and FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH. The film never lets up in its striking re-creations of classic scenes, and it never passes up the chance for a joke, no matter how crude. The young, attractive cast looks like it just jumped out of DAWSON'S CREEK, playing everything up to the hilt--and beyond.

Rated - 1 starsA FEW JOYOUS MINUTES ONLY

Oh dear, what a let down. If you have a sense of humour and enjoy all kinds of horror movies, which I do ~ even those repetitive ones about teenagers in peril on vacation ... on the campus ... on the rampage ... this film is dismal.

What made Airplane and Naked Gun hilarious was the actors did not pull funny faces and splendid gags were delivered straight-faced. Only during the first few minutes is Scary Movie is in the same league.

It starts as a great spoof. You settle down anticipating more of the same quality, but wait in vain ~ because from then on it?s old fashioned knockabout stuff.

In the script are great gags and punch lines which the cast hurl like custard pies. You can see they have loads of fun playing it for laughs, but people trying so hard to be desperately funny are not.

In my minority opinion this film is a turkey. Shame because it could have been terrific if the makers had stuck with the successful spoof formula. Maybe they did not realise how funny those opening moments were and lost their nerve.

One star for trying but no more.

To try and come up with a really enjoyable spoof these days is a daunting task as its pretty much all been done before with such benchmarks as Airplane and naked gun,but here with have a winner.

The wayans brothers triumph with comic timing and character assassination in this parody of modern chillers and teen horrors.there are some really memorable scenes that are true comic genius and the cast just have a riot with the material thats available to them.

although it does tend to lose pace towards the end its worth seeing just for the first five minutes.

its a great laugh and definately worth multiple viewings.there has been a sequel but as usual its just a money making exercise and does not even come close to the original.

Dreadful and unintelligent film, with all the wit and wisdom of a sledgehammer.

Keenen Ivory Wayans doesn't so much as direct as let the whole mess plod along in an unrelated and incoherent way.

I love parodies, such as Airplane! or The Naked Gun. This film is not in the same league at all.

Unless you have the humour of a schoolboy, avoid!
