Brief synopsis of More Tales Of The City

More Tales Of The City--the TV miniseries sequel to "Tales of the City"--is an adaptation of the books by Armistead Maupin. Like its precursor, it follows the lives of a diverse group of individuals from San Francisco, each of whom are searching for love. Meet Anna Madrigal, the bizarre landlady, Mona Ramsey, who is unaware that she is Anna's daughter, Michael 'Mouse' Tolliver, the gay Floridian whose parents think he is straight, and many more interesting characters...

Rated - 3 starsgreat but not as good as the first series

the characters are slightly different in this series (same characters but different actors - less good looking!).

Still enjoyable.

Rated - 2 starsDid politics derail this tale?

A customer from Ludlow, England , 17/07/2006

I seem to recall that there was quite a gap between the production of Tales and More Tales. As I understand it this was due to funding problems; the political climate in the USA made it difficult to get funds for a film that portrays widespread drug use and presents positive images of gays, lesbians and transsexuals.

When the cash was finally raised it seems most of the original cast were otherwise engaged, resulting in this rather bizarre sequel. With new actors playing Mouse, Mona, Brian, D'orothea and Frannie Halcyon the result is really jarring - particularly if you watch Tales and More Tales in fairly rapid succession. And it's not just about changing faces; the quality of acting/casting has also fallen considerably. The new Brian lacks credibility but the biggest problem is the new Mouse. The new Michael Tolliver fails to convey the vulnerability and self-doubt that is at the core of the character but also adopts a 'one expression fits all' approach to acting. The same facial expression is meant to portray anger, fear, pain, sadness etc. Overall, he just ends up looking downright creepy! Nice book, shame about the film!

The second installment of Armistead

Maupins brilliant series is excellent .the storyline is gripping, funny and touching . The only downside to this dvd is some of the actors have changed from the first series but on the whole it is still hugely enjoyable.

although not as good as the first series, this will keep the viewer enthralled with enough twists and turns to keep you watching! A must for anyone with a sense of style!
