Brief synopsis of House Of Wax

In this remake of the classic 1953 Andre de Toth film that starred Vincent Price, horrors abound in a creepy wax museum. A group of road-tripping Florida teenagers (Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray, Paris Hilton, Robert Ri'chard, Jared Padalecki, and Jon Abrahams) stop to camp near a small town where an abandoned wax museum draws their curiosity. Upon exploring the scary cobwebbed space, they find that the figures are not only eerily lifelike, but that the entire museum--floor to ceiling--is actually made of wax. If that wasn't enough to scare them, they encounter a couple of very unsettling characters who seem to be the only people around for miles. One is a blood-splattered redneck who collects roadkill, dumping the bodies of dead deer into a fetid carcass swamp. The other is Bo (Brian Van Holt), a gas station attendant who lures the kids back to his house. Soon, through a series of stomach-turning slasher scenes featuring scissors, long knives, and even a pair of pliers, the teens get to know Bo a whole lot better. They even meet his insane brother Vincent (also played by Van Holt). Brief interludes of teen squabbling and a Hilton strip tease in red lace lingerie temporarily break the tension, but for the most part this HOUSE OF WAX stays the course with shockingly gory moments that earn grosser-than-gross status. Sick predilections involving an experimental surgical station and an elaborate wax-coating machine reveal Vincent's artistic process. But before the bloodbath is over, more twisted secrets about Bo and Vincent bubble to the surface, resulting in a spectacular grand finale and total meltdown.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Owing no more than its title to the 3D original, this is just another teen slasher movie, dimly lit and with some gruesome moments, but it doesn't wax so much as wane.

Rip roaring... sit back and savour the chills and thrills.

Frightening but loads of fun. 4 stars

OK, so the thought of Paris Hilton being in this movie may put you off, but don't let it, as for remakes go, this is quite well done, im not a huge fan of the original though. Its a creepy thought of stubling upon a town you think is full of people, only to find only 3 people live in it (three psychos), and everyone else is made of wax, like a little model town, only gory, its a little overdone (as the house of wax museum is ACTUALLY made of wax) and the script can get a little corny, however, there are some very cool original scenes in it(i especially liked the scene in the cinema) so overall its quite a good watch. A FEW NOTES: It has quite a slow opening and some typical horror moments, and after the slow opening its more of an action horror, so those who like to care about there characters before you see them slaughtered, this might not be for you.

Dear me..........Thank god I never went to the cinema to see this bundle of melted candles! Usual scenario ......Six friends go off the beaten track and end up in a Ghost Town dominated by an old Waxworks museum.......... However there are two brothers living there with some surprises in store , and who bring a whole new meaning to the phrase' you are getting on my wick'.......Paris Hilton graces the screen but it's hard to tell her from the wax dummies ....she gets down to a red bra and panties looks ornamental and that's about it. But you get the idea the director is shouting from the sidelines 'Keep moving kid they're stock taking' This is so far removed from the brilliant original with Vincent Price it's an insult. And during a scene in an empty cinema we seen Bette Davis in Whatever happened to Baby Jane and she steals the show! when she 's singing .......I'm writing a letter to Daddy. she's no doubt writing 'Get me the Hell outta here!'..... which kind of says it all ............ .Don't even bother with DVD on this one folks much like an Electrolux hoover it sucks big time.

House of Wax is an interesting premise, playing on your fears stemming from childhood through dolls, clowns, puppets and here, waxwork models.

If you've ever been to Madame Tussuards and imagined how freaky it would be for all the lights to suddenly go out, this is a movie you'll enjoy.

Despite a slow first act, with some extremely lazy backstory thrown in, House of Wax comes alive with some imaginative set-pieces, the cinema a favourite, sending a chill down your spine, whilst there's also quite a few tense moments as the heat rises. Literally.

The acting isn't the greatest at times, and our protagonists still do the dumbest things when faced with the threat of danger. I kind of hoped Scream had put such scenarios to bed long ago.

The ending might be seen as farcical to some, but as a twisted nightmare it hits the spot. And that's what horror is sometimes all about.

You wont care too much for the characters other than the two main leads, but there are some excellent little touches here, and a few surprises along the way.

By no means a classic, and you can criticise it easily, but its certainly worth your attention.

This without doubt has to be one of the worst films ever produced for commercial consumption. It literally has no redeeming features, the acting is poor (what do you expect with Paris Hilton), the direction is amateur at best (creating about as much tension as opening a packet of Twiglets), and the script is dire, for example when their car breaks down. They knock on someones door to use the phone (which is by the door) and instead of doing that, the character decides to walk up stairs while the owners not looking and starts snooping around the upstairs of his house! What??? That's ridiculous!!!

I haven't yet seen the original film, which could and probably is better. But the actual premise isn't too bad. The idea that a killer preserves his victims in wax, has some potential. However that potential is never even remotely realised. It would be a crime to describe this film as a horror movie, as that would be extremely disrespectful to real horror movies (Halloween, Alien, Dawn of the Dead etc). I implore you, do not watch, rent, or buy this movie and hopefully the studio who made it will never darken our doors with such unimaginative and poorly made rubbish ever again. The weird thing is, I'm actually a big movie fan and can usually find some redeeming features in most films. Just goes to show how bad I found this film!
