If you were a fan of the series, you'll be smiling with this dvd. Great to see the episodes again. The 'downstairs' ones were always the best for me!!

Upstairs Downstairs is one of the quality original drama's which don't seem to happen these days, but it is painfully obvious the budget for this first series was not huge. Disk 3 holds arguably one of the worst epsides of the entire 5 series's - The Swedish Tiger, a farcelike episode which seems to have a seriously poor plot and no continuity with the episodes either side of it, that episode aside, this is a classic series, well worth seeing.

Disc 1 the disk that started it all off, and you can see why it was such a hit from the very first episode, yes the budget was tiny and it showed, yes a number of mistakes are left in most noticably Miss Roberts calling Hudson Mr Hudstone, but you can see the potential of what was to become a classic drama series, Pauline Collins, as Sarah acted her socks off in that first episode and to my mind it was the story of Sarah, which made the early series such a hit. British Drama at its best

Having seen some of the series in the 70s - and enjoyed them - I find the episodes as enjoyable as ever - they don't date and provide a 'nice' relaxing 50 mins at the end of a busy day.
