After suffering a stroke, homophobic security guard Robert De Niro is rehabilitated by street-smart drag queen Philip Seymour Hoffman. A meaningful relationship ensues as the macho patient learns the error of his bigoted ways. Deflating the simplistic morality fable is a vicious subplot involving stolen mob money that Hoffman may have hidden to pay for a sex-change operation. The two leads strive for emotional impact, but the superficial screenplay continually lets them down by substituting bitchy one-liners for heartfelt truths.
